Kaylee Gifford-Just a sophomore for South Warren High School, Gifford claimed the starting libero spot in 2019 and helped lead her team to the region championship. If you’ve ever had the opportunity to watch this girl, you know she always gives 110% and leaves her heart on the floor. Kaylee Gifford is one of those quick, steady, and fearless leaders, and she will continue to be a key for the Spartans as she enters her junior year.
Embry Burgess- A transfer from Greenwood, Embry Burgess, became the libero for the Logan County Cougars as a junior in 2019, and she has definitely been making moves. Burgess was a huge gain for the Cougars because of her solid serve receive and true love for the game. With Burgess leading their back row, Logan County clenched their 17th straight district championship. Embry will enter her final year in 2020, and we should see big things from her!
Mackenzie Austin Mackenzie Austin DS/L Bowling Green | 2023 KY – An interesting case, Mackenzie Austin Mackenzie Austin DS/L Bowling Green | 2023 KY has been the libero for Bowling Green High School since her 8th grade year! Austin has been around the volleyball game for years as her sister, Hailey-Beth Austin, led the Purples in the same libero jersey from 2016-2018. Following in her sister’s footsteps, Mackenzie’s knowledge of the game sets her apart from other players as well as her natural skillset. She may just be an upcoming sophomore in 2020, but she is definitely a huge player making moves for the Purples!
Autumn McCutchen- A senior to-be for Clinton County, McCutchen was an all around player for the team, but her defensive skills stood out. She racked up 336 digs for the season with a 4.0 dig average. Plus, she even helped the team with a .238 hitting average… Her numbers defensively were very close to top in the state, and McCutchen’s skills will be an integral part of the Lady Bulldogs team in 2020.
Meredith Drummond- As a libero for Todd County Central, Meredith Drummond was a “central” part of the Lady Rebels success this season. The team TRIPLED their total number of wins compared to the previous season, and Drummond helped them reach this momentous peak. Meredith tallied 337 digs over the total season and earned a spot in region all-tournament team. The Lady Rebels are already taking huge strides, but Drummond should help them take their success to the next level with her big moves!
Sophie Doszak- Entering her senior year for the South Warren Spartans, Sophie Doszak will make big moves this year. She is a quiet force in the back row with a killer serve but owns her spot for the Spartans. Between her and Kaylee Gifford, it’s pretty difficult to put a ball past them. It’s rare to see two STRONG defensive players in the same school, so it should be a battle between those two for the libero jersey. Doszak played up in the 18s division for club season, so she’s physically and mentally ready for her last season. It’ll be exciting to see the impact Sophie has for the Spartans!
