It is safe to assume there won’t be any spectators so don’t expect any notes unless we can go undercover as a custodian. We did hear from some coaches and many will be at the Liberty Blue Jays summer league. Here are some thoughts on what to look for from each team.
Liberty Blue Jays Summer League – July 13th, 15th, 20th
Teams: Liberty, Park Hill, Smithville, St. Teresa’s, North Kansas City, Lee’s Summit, Lee’s Summit West, Lee’s Summit North, Raymore-Peculiar
Liberty – Suburban Gold
- The transition of Ashley Mullen into the full-time setter after a solid freshman campaign.
- Back-Row Play: The team lost 985 digs from a season ago. Will Madison Corf Madison Corf 5'11" | OH Liberty | 2022 State MO fill that void as a 6 rotation hitter?
- The development of now sophomores Brooklyn Young and Grace Toney in the middle
Park Hill – Suburban Gold
- Who will lead the Trojan offense from the setter position?
- Look to see if the freshmen from a season ago develop in year two.
- Who will be that second scorer in 2020?
Smithville – Suburban Blue
- Smithville will look to see if they can score more in 2020. They return two of their point leaders in Katie Kasten and Isabella Reynolds. If they can score in this tough summer league it will be a welcomed site this fall.
- Most of their digs are gone from a year ago, who will fill that void this summer?
- Who will set this summer and can they connect with the hitters.
St. Teresa’s
- Who emerges as the setter after the summer? The team will miss 996 of 1011 assists from last fall.
- The development of current sophomores Reagan Fox and Darby Beddome.
- Maggie McInerney Maggie McInerney 6'0" | OH St. Teresa's Academy | 2021 MO growth as a 6 rotation outside.
North Kansas City – Suburban Red
- Many pieces to fill in the back row as they lose their top 3 defenders in the dig category.
- Like a few other teams, who will set in 2020 and the summer will go a long way in that decision being made.
- A strong nucleus returns on the front row, are they hungrier after tasting success last season?
Lee’s Summit – Suburban Red
- Are Kendall Boone and Ashlyn Bellamy ready to lead this team offensively?
- The growth of Jordan Stout, Sam Nguyen, and Bellamy after really good freshman seasons.
Lee’s Summit West – Suburban Gold
- Is Sydney Handel Sydney Handel 5'10" | OH Lee's Summit West | 2022 State MO ready to be the go-to scorer for the Titans?
- Keep an eye on middle Abby Massengill to see if she will be the 2nd point scorer.
Lee’s Summit North – Suburban Gold
- Paige Huhman Paige Huhman MB Lee's Summit North | 2021 State MO ’s play and if she’s ready to have a big season.
- Look to see if they have more success in the block department this summer and if it’s an added focus.
- Katie Spacil taking over the setting role.
Raymore-Peculiar – Suburban Gold
- Who will score points for them this summer and into the fall?
- Back-row play
- How will their setters develop this summer?
