Here’s a look at three 13th Region volleyball teams on the rise.
Bell County: After suffering an opening round loss to Lynn Camp in the 2019 13th Region Volleyball Tournament, Bell County is poised to welcome back several key players for the upcoming campaign. The reigning 52nd District champion, Bell County ended the 2019 high school volleyball season 15-13. Bell County returns a productive group of seniors, including but not limited to Madison Ford (175 kills, 33 digs, 53 service aces), Lauren Fultz (476 digs, 38 kills, 34 assists, 32 service aces), MaKenna Lafevers (265 kills, 55 assists, 73 digs, 165 service aces) and Raegan Robbins (75 kills, 655 assists, 360 digs, 165 service aces).
Jackson County: Despite missing out on advancing to the 2019 13th Region Volleyball Tournament, Jackson County is on the rise. Jackson County fielded the youngest volleyball team in the 13th Region during the 2019 high school volleyball season. After compiling a 12-16 record in 2019, Jackson County is poised to return senior setter/outside hitter Hannah Creech (82 kills, 169 assists, 67 digs, 100 service aces) and junior utility/libero Eden Lakes (319 digs, 42 assists, 21 service aces), along with the rest of its roster. Jackson County is the defending 13th Region All “A” Classic champion.
Oneida Baptist Institute: Much-improved Oneida Baptist Institute (OBI) is due to return reigning 13th Region Player of the Year Isabella Valldeperas for her senior season. After finishing runner-up to North Laurel in the 49th District, OBI suffered a season-ending loss to eventual champion Corbin during the opening round of the 2019 13th Region Volleyball Tournament. Valldeperas will lead a group of experienced OBI players into the 2020 prep volleyball season. In addition to Valldeperas, senior Alexandria Weiss (Libero) and junior Madison Gritton are headed back to the court for the Mountaineers.
