Sydney Clayton Sydney Clayton S South Warren | 2021 State KY – Making the best players to watch, Sydney Clayton Sydney Clayton S South Warren | 2021 State KY also belongs on our 4th region setters list. Besides leading the team since freshman year, Clayton runs the offense with ease. She placed 5th in the state for assists with a whopping number of 993. Sydney will enter her final year for the South Warren Spartans, and we should see great things from this senior!
Megan Gore- An interesting story, Megan Gore, didn’t hit the floor but maybe one or two times her freshman year in 2018, but then in 2019, she was expected to be their full-time setter. The Greenwood Gators were coming off a 36-6 season and lost to state runner up, Mercy, so there were huge things in store for 2019. With big shoes to fill for the Greenwood Gators, sophomore, Megan Gore, lived up to the challenge and had 1,249 total assists for 2019 which ranked FIRST in Kentucky’s top assists. Gore has earned her spot as a top setter in Kentucky, and she’ll only get better for her junior year in 2020!
Kaia Barnett winning MVP when Purples won freshmen district.Kaia Barnett- With 10 seniors leaving the Bowling Green Purples back in 2017, the team had been struggling to rebuild and find that key setter. Coming in as just a freshman in 2019, Kaia Barnett helped the Purples with her strong setting ability and high volleyball IQ. Barnett has been around volleyball forever as her mother, Alyson Barnett, coached the Lady Purples back in the day. It’s awesome to watch Kaia lead her mother’s past team and experience her competitive drive for the game. Barnett still has three years left for Bowling Green, and it will for sure be a fun three years to watch!
These three setters were strong for the District 14 teams, and it will be interesting to see which school comes out on top for the district and even region. Bowling Green, South Warren, and Greenwood have been dueling it out since everyone can remember, so don’t forget to watch these awesome grudge matches in the post-season!
