The disruption to the club season slowed down the recruitment process for many aspiring players. It is typically not the norm but expect to see more college coaches in the stands this fall to find a hidden gem. In our opinion, here are the top 5 setters yet to commit in the area.
Lily Letchworth Lily Letchworth 5'10" | S Blue Springs | 2021 State MO – Blue Springs High School – PVA
We introduced Letchworth in our seniors to know for this fall in the Greater Kansas City Suburban Gold division. She leads our list of uncommitted seniors who can contribute to college programs at the next level. The 5’8″ setter will return for her 3rd season of leading the Wildcat offensive attack. She has a great pair of hands. She also does a good job of reading the block to make the right decisions. She is one of few setters in the area who utilizes a jump set to get the ball quicker to her hitters. Her ability to use her legs allows her to find the floor with dumps and keeps defenses on their toes. Last season she had 732 assists and sits at just under 1500 for her career. Check out some highlights.
Morgan Sanders – Lee’s Summit High School – Invasion
The Red division returns a couple of quality setters in 2020 led by Morgan Sanders. The 5’10″ setter returns for her second season of leading the Tigers. She played primarily on the pin her first two seasons of high school before making the move back to her primary position of setter. Her ability was on display last season when three players had over 200 kills. She is very smart and reads defensive positioning well. She averaged just over 8 assists a set a year ago, leading Lee’s Summit to a 21 win season. Sanders is pretty solid when in the back row and shows she can pass the ball with pinpoint accuracy. Her heights allows her to play a factor at the net as well. She had 31 blocks on the year and got touches on many more attacks.
Arley Anderson – Park Hill South High School – PVA
Anderson may be one of the smallest setters in the area, but she is easily one of the most efficient over the years. Standing at 5’4″, she has been a staple in the Panthers lineup since her freshman season. She makes up for the lack of height by being able to utilize the jump set and getting the balls quickly to the pins. She is the true definition of a floor general. Anderson does a good job of finding matchup advantages. She is one of the better back setters in the city. Though her height could be a liability in a 5-1, she could be an asset as a setter in a 6-2 or as a defensive specialist. She had 673 assists last fall and is creeping up on 2,000 for her career.
Mayson Behney – Kearney High School – Highlands Performance
Behney is another setter who has held the reins since her freshman season. She displays an appreciated level of competitiveness on the court. She chases and tries to set every ball she can get her hands on. At 5’7″, she has shown the ability to jump set on occasions. She is at her best in ball placement, specifically to her middles and left pins. Last season’s numbers weren’t updated but she likely sits around 1600 assists in her career. Another plus, Behney brings the ability to swing and get kills. In both high school and club, she was seen adding offense from the right side. As a decorated soccer goalie, her leadership will be an asset to whatever college program brings her in.
Cali Bokenkroger Cali Bokenkroger 5'8" | S St. Michael the Archangel | 2021 State MO – St. Michael the Archangel – Mavs 816
Brokenkroger plays at one of the small private schools in the city, but her game is big. She is approaching 1500 assists in her career. Her sets played numbers were lower last season due to schedule, but she is in line to finish her career with a bang. She is a winner. She led her team to consecutive state tournament runs, finishing 4th and 3rd respectively. Standing at 5’7″, she has the height to set in some capacity in the college game. She is poised and like Behney, very strong in her ball placement. Her ability to get her feet under the ball makes her sets look easy. Here are some highlights of Bokenkroger in action.
