Athens
Athens defeated Greenfield Coop to reach the final four and looks to be the team to beat in their super-sectional. Greenfield Coop, Watertown and Lewiston look to be the teams to compete for the spot in the final four.
Becky Barrett, 2023, 5’2, L, Athens
Becky Barrett, A solid passer with excellent skill returns as a sophomore, looking to beat her totals of 352 digs and 482 service receptions in 2019.
Newark
Newark, the two-consecutive state winner looks for their third straight 1A state title in 2020. Their road has been fairly easy ut look for either Galena or Dakota to give Newark a run for the super-sectional title and a trip to the 1A Final Four.
Madi Malone Madi Malone 6'0" | OH Newark | 2021 State IL , 6’0, OH, Newark, VC United , UWM
Malone could easily be the player to keep a close eye on in 2020 her explosive arm swing threatens anyone in her way. She will take her talent to the University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin in 2021.
Kjerstan Friestad, 2022, 5’10, MH, Newark
Also, a solid basketball player in her own right, Friestad anchors the middle of the net for Newark, As a sophomore, she should get lots of looks by scouts for her talent and athleticism on both courts.
Norris City – Omaha – Enfield (N.C.O.E.)
N.C.O.E. is the front runner in their super-sectional, but don’t count out a now seasoned Woodlawn and always tough Altamount to topple this team out of contention.
Evie Duncan, 2021, 5’10, OH, NCOE
Evie Duncan returns for her senior season. In 2019, she had 247 kills, with a .313 hitting percent, 13 total blocks, and 22 service aces.
Milford
Look for Milford to steal the super-sectional from Illini Bluffs. IB graduates seven returning just three, all 2021 graduates, while Milford returns six, from last year’s roster. Illinois Lutheran and Elmwood are possible contenders to states as well.
Caley Mowrey, 2022, 5’10, MB/OH, Milford
In 82 sets, Caley Mowrey had 372 kills at a .363 hitting percentage. She added 79 total blocks, 76 solos.
