Not too much changing with the two larger classes, but the moving in or out of a large family can make all of the difference in the smaller classes. The following are some of the main shuffles:
Class A won’t see much of a change in teams. Elkhorn bumps down to Class B.
Class B gains Elkhorn from Class A, Ashland-Greenwood from Class C1, and loses Sidney to C1. A-G’s move to Class B may seem like a big jump, but with a talented group of seniors, this may be their best opportunity for a trip to state.
AND WOW! Class C1 was competitive in 2019, but look at it now!!! Holdredge and Sidney move down from Class B. Grand Island Central Catholic, Wahoo Neumann, Hastings St. Cecelia, and Oakland-Craig moved up from Class C2. This came down to the difference of one student enrolled at some of these schools.
**2019 Ranked Teams in Class C1 or C2 that are now all C1 (alphabetical order, bold are new to C1 this season)
Battle Creek (Class C1 State Qualifier)
Broken Bow (Class C1 4th Place)
Chadron (Class C1 State Qualifier)
Grand Island Central Catholic (Class C2 Champion)
Hastings St. Cecelia (Class C2 Runner Up)
Lincoln Lutheran (Class C1 Champion)
Malcolm
Sidney (Class B State Qualifier)
St. Paul (Class C1 Runner Up)
Syracuse
Wahoo (Class C1 3rd Place)
Wahoo Neumann
Wayne (Class C1 State Qualifier)
Ten 2019 state qualifiers making the district final match-ups very important and two 2019 champions! Can’t wait to watch it all play out on the court and much of it will with all but one Centennial Conference school in the class now.
Class C2 gains Norfolk Catholic (Class C1 State Qualifier) from C1 and Overton (Class D1 State Qualifier) and Fullerton from D1 which should all be pushing for spots in the rankings. Lots of opportunities in this class for teams to step it up a notch to get to the state tournament. A new state champion will be crowned in November. When is the last time no Centennial Conference Schools were in C2?
Classes D1 and D2 flip their 2019 champions with BDS now in D1 and Diller-Odell in D2. Class D1 welcomes Summerland (Class C2 State Qualifier), Elmwood-Murdock, and Mead from C2.
Class D2 adds Maywood-Hayes Center, CWC (Class D1 State Qualifier), and Diller-Odell (Class D1 Champion) from D1.
An exciting year on the horizon for all of these classes! The opportunities arise!
