For a few hours Sunday night, athletes were able to feel a sense of normalcy with the sound of volleyball - hard swings, blocks, chatter, and celebrations. The Prep Dig Summer League at the Milwaukee Sting Center was off and running with teams getting a chance to compete and provide a little foreshadowing into what the season could be for many of these athletes. Plenty of the same faces from the traditional powers as well as some new talent that will be hopping on the radar for Wisconsin Prep Volleyball. Here is a little inside scoop on session one.

So many options for @HHSChargerVB - definitely the most versatile team in the state! pic.twitter.com/zICbfEeNbv

The Versatility of Sussex Hamilton
For the Chargers, positions are just a label. They have so many athletes that can play anywhere on the court. They even have three top notch setters who can set and swing, it really doesn’t matter. Katelyn LeflerKatelynLefler5'11" | SSussex Hamilton | 2021StateWI (Illinois State) was a force on the right side while Tatum BaldwinTatumBaldwinSHamilton | 2022StateWI did most of the setting duties while Janelle StuempfigJanelleStuempfig5'11" | SSussex Hamilton | 2021StateWI (Winona State) was playing a little middle. This squad has the depth, talent, and Senior leadership to continue to add on to their legacy.

New Faces and Depth Stand Out For Ocon
Graduating and All State setter and three D1 backcourt players will take time to replace, but for Oconomowoc, their depth in the front line and new setter will be fun to watch develop as the season evolves. Lilly Wagner is an incoming Class of 2024 setter who reminds me of a young Kaley BlakeKaleyBlake5'8" | SBurlington | 2020StateWI (2 time state champ at Burlington, now UW-Milwaukee player), with the speed to get her hands on the ball and all the intangibles to go with. Middle blocker, Anna Bjork will be one to watch as well from the Class of 2024. There were familiar names from the frontline who were in action Sunday include Cordelia KearnsCordeliaKearns5'10" | OHOconomowoc | 2023StateWI, Kaitlyn BinghamKaitlynBingham5'7" | OHOconomowoc | 2021StateWI, and Haley KochHaleyKochMBOconomowoc | 2022StateWI. The Raccoons will have plenty of weapons to score points this season.

Pure Power Matchup
One of the top individual matchups of the night was between Jordan BerglinJordanBerglin5'9" | OHPewaukee | 2021StateWI of Pewaukee and Mckenna WuchererMckennaWuchererOHBrookfield Central | 2022StateWI of Brookfield Central. Berglin is a soon to be Senior heading to Flager College in Florida while Wucherer is heading to Minnesota. Two extremely high flying physical pins where they can swing away, making it so difficult for the other side of the net to put something clean up to the setter. Berglin would even switch to the right side for blocking purposes on Wucherer. Two of the top outside hitters in the state is always a treat to watch.

Edgewood Showing Early Promise
Another year of experience for Edgewood was what this group needed with a big bulk of their roster being underclassmen in 2019. The Crusaders showed Sunday night they are ready to take the next step. They are led by Marquette recruit Ella FotiEllaFoti6'0" | SMadison Edgewood | 2021StateWI who can set and swing from anywhere, one of the more versatile athletes in 2021. Newly committed athlete in Natalie RingNatalieRingOHEdgewood | 2022StateWI will also head to Marquette. Ring is a big arm on the outside from the Class of 2022. Keep an eye on middles Addison SchmotzerAddisonSchmotzerMBEdgewood | 2023StateWI and Ally BarthAllyBarthMBEdgewood | 2022StateWI. With more reps working with Foti and another year of varsity under their belt they are capable of some big things in 2020.
Really liking this @EdgewoodGVB squad...two future @MarquetteVB athletes and a very balanced squad. pic.twitter.com/y8hLNjc1Py
