Continue ReadingSetters are considered by many as the most important pieces of a volleyball team. They are the ones in charge of dictating the team’s offense and carry the huge responsibility of being the coach’s voice inside the court. More than just putting their hitters in a good position to score points, a good setter is the one who manages to keep most of their hitters involved consistently. These four setters did just that in 2019 and will probably please us again with great distribution when the 2020 season starts.
Adelle Holland – Puyallup
Holland ranked first in the entire state in assists (1,100) last season, but she wasn’t the kind of setter who repeatedly overloaded their main hitter. She showed great maturity during her junior campaign and fed five of her attacking pieces with at least 300 sets each. Seniors Cara Maguire (1,067), Jaye Hodge (974) and Jessica Morse (368) had a high level of usage, but juniors Sara Scavotto (559) and Megan Brucker (322) also saw the ball pretty often.
Danielle Faamausili – Steilacoom
Faamausili had several interesting options to use at Steilacoom and she did a great job in activating each of them at the right time. The setter, who registered 884 assists, showed strong trust on fellow sophomores as outside hitter Riley Debiec (419) and middle-blocker Gabrielle (359), her twin sister, who both received a fair amount of her sets alongside junior outside hitter Pomai Balderson (526) and opposite Emma West (287). All four of them ended the season with at least 120 kills.
Michelle Fast Michelle Fast 5'8" | S Lake Stevens | 2021 State WA – Lake Stevens
The seventh setter with the most assists (714) in the state of Washington in 2019, Fast accomplished what most setters look for. The 5’8″ junior managed to have all of her five main hitters scoring in triple digits after spiking at least 300 balls each. Junior outside hitters Samaya Morin Samaya Morin 6'1" | OH Lake Stevens | 2021 State WA (632) and Tatum Smith (538) and middle-blockers Karli Tri Karli Tri 6'2" | MB Lake Stevens | 2021 State WA (351) and Maddie Iseminger (342) were the most used, but sophomore right sider Anna Schroedl (325) was also heavily involved. She’s ranked 24th on prepdig.com’s Class of 2021 ranking for good reason.
Madi Zorn – Northwest Christian School
Zorn did a splendid job in orchestrating Northwest Christian’s offense last season. The 5’8″ sophomore setter had a limited roster to work with, but made the most of it, feeding her main three hitters smartly and efficiently. Junior outiside hitter Chiara Carey led the team with 726 attack attempts, followed by the Tunison sisters Mia (sophomore, outside hitter) with 679 and Skyla (senior, middle-blocker) with 616.
