We hear a lot about the tall, strong hitters, but the conference also boast some of the best defenders too. They come in off the bench ready for action with no time for warming up; provide the setters were settable balls, and have an unbelievable ability to dig even the toughest balls off the ground.
1 – Cate Wanous Cate Wanous 5'6" | DS/L Kasson-Mantorville | 2022 State MN : Kasson-Mantorville -2022
- All-conference athlete
- MNL athlete
- Wanous’ top skill next to passing is her serving. She leads her team with long service runs at crucial times. While they may not always be ace serves, they help throw off opponents’ offense.
2 – Torrie Rehder, Goodhue -2021
- Honorable mentionAll-conference athlete
- State Basketball participant
- Torrie’s competitive nature extends to all her activities. Her physical strength allows her the control and stamina to succeed in volleyball.
3 – Brynn Robinson, Cannon Falls -2022
- Season-high 22 digs vs. Kenyon Wanamingo loss
- Brynn has mastered the out-of system offense in which she steps in to set up attackers.
4 – McKenna Chick, Hayfield -2022
- Chick will likely step into a starting position after the Vikings graduated 7 seniors.
- Excelled on JV; excellent depth perception on serve receive.
5 –Sarah Oeltjenbruns, Stewartville-2021
- State Champion 2019
- While the Tigers don’t always use a libero, Sarah is a defensive specialist who often comes into to serve for aces and give starters a quick rest.
