There were not full tryouts, the camp that was to be at Central College, or multiple athletes from Iowa representing the state with the rest of the nation. Iowa has a strong high-performance program where coaches and athletes from across the state get a chance to compete among the best. However, what is so valuable about this experience is the camp where athletes get to train together, coming from clubs across the state before the teams are made. The Iowa Region will get to put on the camp experience at Club Ignite in West Des Moines July 8-10. Here are a few athletes who are slated to attend.
Girls Selects (Born 2004 and 2005) – Get To Know The Class of 2023
Claudia Aschenbrenner Claudia Aschenbrenner 5'10" | OH Osage | 2023 State IA – Osage
Aschenbrenner has already made her footprint on Iowa Girls Volleyball as a middle blocker who is really expanding her game. A key part of Osage’s state tournament team in 2019, Aschenbrenner has the athleticism and is incredibly dynamic getting from pin to pin as well as relentless in transition which allows her to always be an option in system.
Mara Fluent Mara Fluent 5'9" | S Cedar Rapids Kennedy | 2023 State IA – Cedar Rapids Kennedy
Fluent is rising as a top setter in the Class of 2023 with how she can get to the ball quickly and set a variety of tempos connecting with hitters across the frontline. She will be the main distributor for Kennedy this season after have a really solid club season with Six Pack.
Cassidy Hartman Cassidy Hartman 5'10" | MB Iowa City Liberty | 2023 State #130 Nation IA – Iowa City Liberty (Title Photo)
Hartman is long, athletic, and extremely dynamic. She was the top kill leader for Iowa City Liberty enroute to their first ever state tournament appearance. Hartman can play in the middle or on the pin. With a high touch she can create a lot of havoc offensively and defensively. As she continues her backcourt game, she will be scary when she can score points in every rotation.
Ella Meyer Ella Meyer 5'5" | DS/L Western Dubuque | 2023 State IA – Western Dubuque
Meyer just has a fire and spark. The 2023 libero from Western Dubuque played a huge part in the Bobcast run to a state runner up finish in Class 4A with huge wins over Dubuque Wahlert and Cedar Rapids Xavier. Meyer will continue to quarterback the back row for a squad who is returning plenty of firepower into 2020.
Lily Dykstra Lily Dykstra 6'0" | OH Urbandale | 2023 State #127 Nation IA – Urbandale
Dykstra is going to be one of the top outside attackers from the Class of 2023. Stong, athletic, and a big arm, she will be one to watch in the CIML which is going to be loaded with talent. Her ceiling is incredibly high and will be watch as she will be one college coaches have an early eye on.
Ava Schubert Ava Schubert 6'1" | RS Assumption | 2023 State #153 Nation IA – Davenport Assumption
A thunderous arm from the right side, Schubert was the MAC Player of the Year as a Freshman. The MAC had three teams advance to the state tournament in North Scott, Pleasant Valley, and Assumption. She has a lot of tools to use to contribute in a positive way with her serve receive.
Chloe Cline Chloe Cline 6'1" | MB Pleasant Valley | 2023 State IA – Pleasant Valley
Cline was a key part of Pleasant Valley’s run to the final four of Class 5A last fall, connecting extremely well with Class of 2022 setter Kora Ruff Kora Ruff 5'9" | S Pleasant Valley | 2022 State #86 Nation IA . Cline can score points out of the middle, but will is a major defensive force being active at the net.
