Some of these squads should open the 2020 campaign among the early season favorites to battle for the state title. As a handful of returning prospects from the state tournament a year ago have committed to college programs, including Eagan ‘ last=”]’ last=”]’s Kennedi Orr Kennedi Orr 6'0" | S Eagan | 2021 State MN and Abigail Moe Abigail Moe 6'2" | MB Eagan | 2021 State MN , Lakeville North’s Madelyn Hornyak Madelyn Hornyak 5'11" | OH Lakeville North | 2021 State MN and Ella Thompson Ella Thompson 6'1" | MB Lakeville North | 2021 State MN , as well as Minnetonka’s Kali Engeman Kali Engeman 6'1" | MB Minnetonka | 2021 State MN , there remain several athletes that are worth continued evaluation as they continue through the recruiting process. Here is a collection of uncommitted athletes representing 2019 class 3A state tournamen teams:
Raegan Alexander
Raegan
Alexander
6'1" | MB
St. Louis Park | 2021
State
MN
– 2021 | 6’1 | MB | St. Louis Park
Long and athletic, Alexander is a multi-sport athlete that has the ability to provide a big impact on the volleyball court. She can score around the setter off one or two feet while providing good reach and pressure as a blocker. This team’s middle combo has good upside and could be an x-factor in supporting their pin offense and guiding them to another deep run in 2020.
Simara Amador
Simara
Amador
5'7" | DS/L
Eagan | 2022
State
MN
– 2022 | 5’7 | L/DS | Eagan ‘ last=”]’ last=”]
Amador has great court sense, vision, and range that makes a big impact from the back row. She creates great angles with her platform and gets to the ball with good efficiency in her movement and pursuit. She should assume this team’s role as their ball control and defensive leader that will help ignite what should once again be some of the best offense in the state.
Elle Cotton
Elle
Cotton
6'0" | S
Elk River | 2022
State
MN
– 2022 | 6’0 | S | Elk River
One of the best setters in the 2022 class, Cotton set and hit in 2019 for the Elks, providing a big spark throughout their postseason run. Playing primarily as a setter during the club season, Cotton has a great range of skills to help out her team in every area of the game. She has good size, is athletic, and brings some of the best competitiveness around to the floor.
Emma Goerger – 2022 | 6’3 | MB | Wayzata
Goerger’s gains in the off-season should help her assume a bigger role for the defending state champions in 2020. Following the graduation of some good middle options in 2019, she brings good size and length to the net with ability to be productive on both sides of the ball.
Hannah Howell
Hannah
Howell
6'0" | OH
St. Louis Park | 2021
State
MN
– 2021 | 6’0 | OH | St. Louis Park
Howell has a complete range of skills and should once again be this team’s offensive leader. She plays six-rotations and has ability to impact the game in a variety of ways, whether in her arm as an attacker, her ball control, or from the service line.
Sienna Ifill
Sienna
Ifill
6'1" | RS
Eagan | 2022
State
#83
Nation
MN
– 2022 | 6’1 | RS | Eagan ‘ last=”]’ last=”]
An athletic and imposing force on the right side of the court, Ifill applies a lot of pressure at the net both offensively and defensively. She fills up great space when blocking and has continued to improve her timing and arm work when attacking to expand her range and impact in that area. She was an all-tournament team selection in 2019.
Abby Jandro
Abby
Jandro
5'9" | S
Lakeville North | 2022
State
MN
– 2022 | 5’9 | S | Lakeville North
Jandro set this team through a terrific 2019 season, including a 2-1 record at last year’s state tournament. She will once again command an offense that features a good collection of arms across the net. She created good balance last year and will need to find that once again for them to repeat their success in 2020.
Sophie Jesewitz
Sophie
Jesewitz
6'3" | OH
Wayzata | 2022
State
MN
– 2021 | 6’3 | OH | Wayzata
A six-rotation primary attacker that earned all-tournament honors at state a year ago in helping Wayzata claim the title. She has great length and range and can terminate both front and back row. She should be this team’s primary option as they develop additional support following graduation of a good collection of point scorers.
Kendal Kemp
Kendal
Kemp
6'6" | MB
Eagan | 2022
State
#84
Nation
MN
– 2022 | 6’6 | MB | Eagan ‘ last=”]’ last=”]
Part of a rising junior class that is being heavily recruited. Kemp will continue to be a big part of this program’s effort in all areas of the game. With great size and length, she continues to improve her mobility and quickness on both sides of the ball to make her tough to slow down.
Johanna Langbehn – 2021 | 6’3 | MB | Elk River
This multi-sport athlete competes well. A key element for Elk River a year ago in the middle, she puts up a big block. Her offensive role should increase given the graduation of some other important pieces from their 2019 run.
Abbey Milner
Abbey
Milner
6'3" | MB
Lakeville North | 2021
State
MN
– 2021 | 6’3 | MB | Lakeville North
Milner provides nice presence in the middle and helps form a solid middle tandem for this team. She has continued to improve her impact in all facets both offensively and defensively. Her ability to score points will help create more balance in this offense.
Jenna Rubbelke
Jenna
Rubbelke
5'3" | DS/L
North St. Paul | 2021
State
MN
– 2022 | 5’3 | L/OH | North St. Paul
A state tournament all-star selection in 2019, she has electric qualities with great quickness and pursuit of the ball that helped North St. Paul to their first state appearance. In spite of her size she makes a huge impact fo this team through both her skills and effort, which at times involves her swinging on the left side. She has great elevation and arm skills to generate pace and movement when attacking.
Abby Stanwood
Abby
Stanwood
5'9" | OH
Minnetonka | 2022
State
MN
– 2022 | 5’9 | OH | Minnetonka
Athletic, active, and aggressive is a great way to describe Stanwood’s game as a six-rotation primary attacker. She elevates well, has a fast arm, and can score in bunches. She will see a lot of opportunity in this team’s offense while also helping to stabilize their attack with her ball control and defense.
Sam Zimmerman
Sam
Zimmerman
6'0" | MB
Moorhead | 2021
State
MN
– 2021 | 6’0 | MB | Moorhead
Zimmerman provided a lot of offense for Moorhead in 2019. She is effective in front of the setter and off one foot overhead as she had great chemistry with their senior setter a year ago. Replicating that production could be a challenge in 2020. However, the Spuds have good tradition and typically compete well so don’t be surprised if they are in the mix once again.
