They run the show, they are the ones who connect the dots, making everyone around them just a little bit better. For some teams at the Prep Dig Sizzle, it was their chance to bring in the next setter, adjust to the speed of the game, and see what connections will be established from now into the season. Here are some setters who are ready to fill some big shoes and make an instant impact for their squads.

Emma Johnson Emma Johnson 5'10" | S Luxemburg-Casco | 2022 State WI – Luxemburg-Casco
Each time Johnson steps onto the court she seems to improve and always impress. Bekah Day Bekah Day S Luxemburg-Casco | 2020 State WI , the L-C Class of 2020 setter was the area player of the year and will head to UW-Stevens Point, leaving Johnson with some attackers who can put a ball away. For Johnson, she has great hands, a smooth release, but she gets her feet to the ball, she can jump set in front and behind her and has really taken command of the court. Like any great program, it’s always the next one in which is no different for the Spartans as Johnson has taken control of the position and will look to lead her team back to a state tournament.
Macy Herman Macy Herman 5'11" | S Kimberly | 2023 State WI – Kimberly
Kalli Mau Kalli Mau 5'10" | S Kimberly | 2020 State WI , the Class of 2020 setter for Kimberly was the school leader in assists and will head to Bellarmine in Louisville. Macy Herman Macy Herman 5'11" | S Kimberly | 2023 State WI is the soon to be Sophomore who has a lot of the same qualities as Mau when she was stepping into the varsity ranks. Herman is long, athletic, will have the potential to run a 5-1 for an incredibly balanced Kimberly offense which has a strong nucleus of underclassmen attackers.

Sydney Selburg – Westosha Central
Selburg is super gritty. After an ankle injury which had her on the sideline her Freshman season, she is back and healthy after a strong club season for Sky High . She’s got eyes on both sides of the court where she can attack when needed. An extremely solid defender, Selburg can get her hands on the ball and find a way to get all of her attackers involved. The Falcons may be young, but they have the pieces to be really dangerous with a scrappy bunch that is eager to compete!
Maddy Fortune Maddy Fortune 5'8" | S McFarland | 2022 State WI – McFarland
Same last name, different setter, McFarland had Lizzy Fortune Lizzy Fortune S McFarland | 2020 State WI running the show the past few years where now her younger sister Maddy will take over setting duties. McFarland is another example of a program where the next athlete just steps in. Plenty of attackers, solid defense, Fortune is an all around athlete who can get her hands on the ball anywhere on the court. The Spartans will be another power in a really deep and talented Madison area section.
Brooklyn Buysse – Liberty All Stars (Cover Photo)
Buysee was a utility player for West Liberty on their run to a state tournament appearance in Iowa. This year she will step into set and bring a real athleticism to the position where she is quick, a solid dumper, and has a huge range as a defender. It also helps when you have two of the top attackers in the state in Martha Pace Martha Pace 5'11" | OH West Liberty | 2021 State IA and Macy Daufeldt Macy Daufeldt 5'10" | OH West Liberty | 2022 State #74 Nation IA . This squad will once again to be one of the top teams in Class 3A in Iowa.
Rachel Koss Rachel Koss 5'11" | S Freedom | 2023 State WI – Freedom
Koss saw time as a Freshman for Freedom as a setter, but her role could be expanded to six rotations where she can set and also showed she can provide a swing on the right side. She has established a strong connection with fellow soon to be Sophomore Sydney Bartels Sydney Bartels 5'11" | OH Freedom | 2023 State WI , a springy middle that can score points. Koss has the all around game to be another top setter in the Northeastern Conference.
Morgan Kealy Morgan Kealy 5'11" | S River Falls | 2023 State WI – River Falls
Kealy was thrown into varsity action a little earlier than expected last season as a Freshman when her older sister, senior setter Maddi Kealy Maddi Kealy 5'10" | S River Falls | 2020 State WI was out the first month of the season with a stress fracture. With more experience under her belt, Morgan is back and showing great confidence in running the offense at a consistent tempo. The Wildcats lost a talented Senior class from the Class of 2020, but has attackers who can still score points.
