Continue ReadingSibling connections have a unique way of manifesting on a volleyball court. It’s often said that volleyball is the ultimate team sport, and the chemistry that sisters can have as teammates would almost seem like an unfair advantage. Perhaps I’m just biased here, but my personal experience with having a twin sister has made me a believer in the power of sibling telepathy. We can read each other’s minds. I promise.
Psychology theories aside, there were a ton of sister tandems who performed incredibly well at the Summer Bash last weekend. I get the feeling that many of these sibling duos were able to put in some extra reps together during the several months without volleyball. Always having a practice partner regardless of outside circumstances is a valuable asset.
Here are just a few of the noteworthy sibling pairs who shined at the Summer Bash.
Bekka Allick Bekka Allick 6'3" | MB Waverly | 2022 State #7 Nation NE and Hannah Allick Hannah Allick 5'6" | S Waverly | 2022 State NE – Waverly
Bekka and Hannah are twins with two completely distinct styles of play. They’re not much alike. The important thing, though, is that they both fill their roles exceptionally well.
This middle-setter combo was lethal all weekend, with Hannah dishing out perfectly smooth sets to her twin, who is committed to Nebraska. The pair is new to the Vikings lineup after transferring in from Lincoln North Star during the offseason. This transition appears to have been seamless, as Hannah and Bekka had no problem standing out on a team that ended up being a dominant force throughout the event. I am adamant that Hannah can follow her sister’s lead in committing to a great school, as this pair is sure to thrive on a great Waverly squad for the next two years.
Set one to @Waverlyvikesvb, as Bekka Allick Bekka Allick 6'3" | MB Waverly | 2022 State #7 Nation NE finishes it on the slide. So impressed with the Allick-to-Allick connection! Hannah can really run an offense. pic.twitter.com/Gy25pBSkHd

Addison Heidemann and Karli Heidemann Karli Heidemann 6'1" | OH Diller-Odell | 2023 State #124 Nation NE – Diller-Odell
How about another setter-hitter sister duo?
The dominance of the Heidemann sisters is no mystery to those who follow the Nebraska prep scene. Addison, a 2021 setter and Iowa State commit, continued to demonstrate her masterful command of the Diller-Odell offense last weekend. Her tempo and deception constantly created great matchups for her hitters. One of those hitters is her younger sister, Karli, a left-side hitter who currently sits atop our 2023 rankings. She backed up that distinction at the Summer Bash, too, producing hard, driving balls that were tough to handle. There’s no question that Diller-Odell will continue to be the favorites in Class D1 with this talented tandem leading the way.

Emma Schubert Emma Schubert OH Assumption | 2021 State IA and Ava Schubert Ava Schubert 6'1" | RS Assumption | 2023 State #153 Nation IA – Assumption
Assumption displayed a wealth of pin-hitting talent during the Summer Bash, and it all starts with Emma and Ava.
The Schubert sisters know how to bring the heat. These two were constantly cranking on either pin. Emma, a 2021 prospect who primarily plays on the left pin, showed a knack for scoring on tough balls as well as playing solid defense in the back row. She is emerging as the vocal leader of this team.
Meanwhile, Ava brings a slightly different skillset to the fray. This rising star from the Class of 2023 is a lefty who is a natural on the right pin. Who doesn’t like a southpaw opposite? Ava can play right-back defense and take swings from multiple spots. Together, the Schubert sisters are poised to make Assumption a serious contender in the fall.
Anna Quijas Anna Quijas 5'8" | OH Assumption | 2021 IA and Amelia Quijas Amelia Quijas 5'8" | OH Assumption | 2021 State IA – Assumption
Admittedly, it was somewhat difficult to tell these two 2021 outside hitters apart. That’s either because they look alike, or because they both bring equal amounts of energy and skill to the floor. Maybe both.
As Assumption’s lineup was shuffled throughout the event, Anna and Mia spent time together in both the frontcourt and backcourt. They each excelled in both roles. It’s a privilege to have two excellent outside hitters who have the attacking range and defensive skills to stay on the court all the way around. Between the Schubert sisters and the Quijas twins, Assumption showed that they have the depth to compete with a variety of lineups. Their trip to the Gold championship was no fluke.
