Here are three 14th Region volleyball teams on the rise.
Hazard: On its way to compiling an 11-13 record during the 2019 high school volleyball season, Hazard finished runner-up to Leslie County in the 54th District and advanced to the 14th Region Tournament. Hazard finished near the .500 mark after ending the 2018 high school volleyball season 2-22. Several experienced players are slated to be back on the court for the Bulldogs. Senior Aniyah Miller (109 kills, 84 blocks) is among the top players due to return for the Hazard volleyball team.
Jackson City: Following a loss to crosstown rival Breathitt County (defending 14th Region champion) in the 55th District Volleyball Tournament, Jackson City ended the 2019 season 18-8. The Tigers remained well above the .500 mark after finishing the 2018 high school volleyball season 20-13. Senior Cristiana Turner Cristiana Turner OH Jackson City | 2021 State KY is nearing the start of her final prep season for 55th District member Jackson City. As a junior in 2019, Turner posted a team-leading 206 kills, 208 digs and 49 service aces for the Tigers.
June Buchanan: Compiling a winning record, June Buchanan ended the 2019 high school volleyball season 13-11. The Crusaders showed much improvement after finishing 6-17 in the 2018 high school volleyball season. June Buchanan’s run in the 2019 prep volleyball postseason ended with a loss to rival Knott County Central in the 53rd District Volleyball Tournament Semifinals. During the upcoming prep volleyball campaign, June Buchanan will look to overcome the graduation of a talented class. The top players headed back for June Buchanan include seniors Chloe Watts and Hannah Hall, along with sophomore Riley Likens.
