Here are three 3rd Region volleyball teams on the rise.
Daviess County: Winning nearly 20 matches, Daviess County ended the 2019 high school volleyball season 19-10. The Panthers showed much improvement on the court after ending the 2018 high school volleyball season 13-14. Daviess County pushed longtime rival Apollo prior to falling short to the E-gals in the 2019 9th District Volleyball Tournament Semifinals. With several experienced players headed back, Daviess County will once again push to notch 20 wins or more. Seniors Elizabeth Moore (259 kills, 89 digs, 28 service aces), Ryann Keller (342 assists, 25 digs), Kendal Goetz (281 digs, 26 service aces) and Kloee Phelps (335 digs, 36 service aces) are the leading players poised to return for 9th District member Daviess County.
Muhlenberg County: After finishing as the 10th District runner-up, Muhlenberg County reached the 2019 3rd Region Volleyball Tournament Semifinals and then exited its most recent season 18-14. Eventual champion Owensboro Catholic eliminated Muhlenberg County from the 2019 3rd Region Volleyball Tournament. The Mustangs excelled after exiting the 2018 season 11-23. Seniors Daisy Ritchie (305 kills, 117 blocks, 65 assists, 127 digs, 33 service aces), Sophy Fields (51 kills, 29 blocks, 222 assists, 120 blocks, 22 service aces) and Brooklin Engler (365 assists, 157 digs, 39 service aces), in addition to junior Maddy Cary (196 kills, 117 blocks), return for 10th Region member Muhlenberg County.
Ohio County: Posting the fifth-highest win total in the 3rd Region during the 2019 high school volleyball season, Ohio County concluded its most recent campaign 17-11. Ohio County compiled a winning record after ending the 2018 prep volleyball season 14-17. The Eagles thrived during the 2019 season, winning the 10th District title and making an appearance in the 3rd Region Volleyball Tournament. Graduation didn’t spare Ohio County. However, Ohio County returns sophomores Camryn Kennedy (76 kills, 28 blocks, 429 assists, 182 digs, 43 service aces), Kaitlyn Sampson (111 kills, 115 digs, 23 service aces) and Caroline Law (76 kills, 271 assists, 79 digs, 26 service aces), along with junior Heaven Vanover (73 kills, 52 blocks, 81 digs, 25 service aces).
