The Sunset Slam will kick off with it’s first session at the Community First Champions Center in Appleton with waves at 1:00 and 5:00. BallerTV will be streaming all courts as well. Here are some athletes who may be a little under the radar or are bound to break out, it’s only a matter of time – I’m so excited to see them take the court and hear the sounds of volleyball. It’s going to be a great day!
Abby Fregein of @WestWaukesha has Always been a super crafty outside but would be a huge steal at the next level as a DS/Libero! pic.twitter.com/zfoJAuw4Z1

Abby Fregein – Waukesha West
Class of 2021
The libero you never knew you needed. Fregein is a solid college prospect who would make a great DS/libero. She’s been a solid six rotation outside with a high IQ and a shot-maker who can score points from the pin, but her ability to serve receive and pass will transition great to the next level. She is cool, calm, and collected and with her counterpart in the backrow in Anna Holland Anna Holland 5'6" | DS/L Waukesha West | 2021 State WI (Seton Hall libero commit), West is able to find a way in system.
Autumn Flynn Autumn Flynn 5'11" | MB Luxemburg-Casco | 2023 State WI – Luxemburg-Casco
Class of 2023
L-C has had a busy and successful summer with big wins at the One Wisconsin Summer League, WLC Team Camp, and the Prep Dig Sizzle. Autumn Flynn Autumn Flynn 5'11" | MB Luxemburg-Casco | 2023 State WI has been getting better each time she steps on the court. Strong and physical at the net, Flynn is a major blocking presence in the middle and is dangerous when she is able to take off on one foot. Her connection with setter, Emma Johnson Emma Johnson 5'10" | S Luxemburg-Casco | 2022 State WI is money!
Andrea Bortulin – Watertown Luther Prep
Class of 2022
I really enjoyed watching Watertown Luther Prep at the WLC team camp. Extremely scrappy and Bortulin does it all for the Phoenix. She can swing on the right side, set, and defend. They will definitely be one to watch in their bracket where they have multiple weapons who can score points.
Emilie Planert Emilie Planert 6'1" | MB West De Pere | 2022 State WI – West De Pere
Class of 2022
Planert is 6’1 and controls her side of the net as a middle. She was on the FC Elite 16 Navy squad this past club season and really impressed at the Summer Showcase a couple weeks ago. She is able to score points and really be a presence with her block and will look to lead the Phantoms.

Isabelle Coon – St. Mary’s Springs Academy
Class of 2022
So athletic, Coon can do it all. She is silky smooth with her quickness on the court. She can set or swing, but is involved in every play and always manages to get a positive touch on the ball. SMSA is bringing a lot of depth where they have a lot of athletes who can just scrap it out, including Coon.
Hannah Moe – Northern Aces
Class of 2022
Ton of power! Moe played for One Wisconsin 17 Mizuno and will be a Junior at Oconto High School this fall. She can play on the pin or in the middle, either way she brings an aggressive attacking style and a lot of power behind her swing. She is exciting to watch and provides a great 1-2 punch with Green Bay commit, Cora Behnke Cora Behnke 6'0" | OH Oconto | 2021 State WI who is on the outside.
Ally Barth Ally Barth 6'0" | MB Edgewood | 2022 State WI – Edgewood
Class of 2022
Keep Barth on your radar. She is flying out of the middle and is connecting extremely well with Marquette commit Ella Foti Ella Foti 6'0" | S Madison Edgewood | 2021 State WI as a setter. Barth is a multisport athlete where she has a knack for the big play. She brings the lateral quickness to go from pin to pin blocking, which also working hard in transition to make solid contact on a quick tempo set. Her ceiling is incredibly high!
Emma Baierl Emma Baierl 5'8" | S Howards Grove | 2022 State WI – Howards Grove
Class of 2022
Baierl brings a calming presence to the court as she was a key piece to the run to a state championship for Howards Grove in 2019. The setter can run all the tempos and can run the show in any rotation. She can defend and even attack when the time is right. Howards Grove returns a large bulk of their squad from 2019.
Class of 2022 outside Aida Shadewald Aida Shadewald 5'11" | OH Sauk Prairie | 2022 State #184 Nation WI extremely impressive for @stingvb1988 Madison United – six ro, solid in serve receive and a big time shot maker. pic.twitter.com/TwzobWj9dV
— Chris Fitzgerald (@PrepDigChris) February 8, 2020
Aida Shadewald Aida Shadewald 5'11" | OH Sauk Prairie | 2022 State #184 Nation WI – Sauk Prairie
Class of 2022
Shadewald had nearly 500 kills as a Sophomore and will be greasing up for another big season. She is a six rotation outside who can score points from anywhere on the court. A big swing and can score out of the middle, swing from either pin, and can do it with a variety of speed and shots – but let her rip and its tough to keep in system.
Amber Van De Hei – Sting
Class of 2021
Van De Hei is a long, athletic middle who is touching ten feet. With a high reach and snap, Van De Hei is another who has a big presence in the middle because she can attack in front or behind the setter. With Van De Hei and Senior outside Grace Perret Grace Perret 5'9" | OH Green Bay Preble | 2021 State WI on their side of the net they will be fun to watch and see how they can compete with some top teams.
Abby Gardner Abby Gardner 5'9" | DS/L Mukwonago | 2021 State WI – Mukwonago
Class of 2021’
Gardner had nearly 500 digs in her Junior year at Mukwonago and will be leading from the libero position. Mukwonago will have to replace key players in Erin Powers Erin Powers 5'8" | DS/L Mukwonago | 2020 State WI (UAB) and Nicole Pozorski Nicole Pozorski 5'8" | S Mukwonago | 2020 State WI (Upper Iowa), but are always full of athletes who will be able to contribute. With a solid first contact from Gardner, they will be sure to get in system.
