We can’t help but think about which teams will play the best volleyball and which players will set themselves apart from the competition when the balls are finally allowed to start flying. It’s way too early, I know, but here are my best guesses about who will make it to the All-State Team in the class 1B next season.
Gianna Anderson – Outside Hitter – Sophomore – Oakesdale
Gianna Anderson was instrumental in Oakesdale’s run to the State Championship final in 2019, when she was a freshman. The 5’7” outside hitter showed a great all-around game, being a key part of everything the Nighthawks did both on offense and defense. With her first high school volleyball season under her belt, Anderson, who was an All-State first team member in 2019, should have no trouble in returning to the same spot in 2020.
Bree Dawson – Outside Hitter – Senior – Selkirk
Selkirk’s dreams of making it to the State Championship in 2019 came up short, but not because of Bree Dawson’s efforts. The 5’9” outside hitter had a prolific junior season with the Rangers, one in which she tallied 81 kills, 54 digs and 16 aces – everything it takes to succeed on her position. An All-State second-team nominee in 2019, she could give the next step and be a first-team member in 2020.
Jessie Reed – Outside Hitter – Sophomore – Oakesdale
Jessie Reed was a great complimentary piece to Gianna Anderson in the Oaksdale team that marched all the way to the State Championship final in 2019. An excellent defender and passer, the 5’6” player didn’t feel the responsibility of playing for a perennial contender in her first full high school volleyball season and contributed in a variety of ways, earning an All-State first-team nomination in her freshman season.
Katie Kogler – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Firm Foundation Christian
Katie Kogler is involved in pretty much everything Firm Foundation Christian does on a volleyball court. An All-State second-team selection in 2019, the six-foot-tall middle-blocker led the Eagles in kills, blocks and aces in each of her three seasons with the team. Last season was arguably her best among all three as she reached career-highs in kills (389) and blocks (79) and had her second-best season from the service line with 56 aces registered.
Anna Williams – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Pateros
Anna Williams was one of the main reasons why Pateros appeared at the State Championship last season. The 5’10” middle-blocker was the tallest player in the Nannies roster and took the responsibility of leading the team at the net with impressive performances on offense and defense with her blocks. She was an All-State second team member in 2019 and could make the leap for the first team next season.
LouEllen Reed – Setter – Senior – Oakesdale
LouEllen Reed has been nothing but a winner during her high school career with Oakesdale. During her tenure coordinating their offense, the Nighthawks have played in three State Championship finals, winning two of them. In three of those years, including 2019, the 5’7” setter was an All-State first-team selection and odds are she will do it again in 2020 as she leads a young and talented Oaskesdale roster.
Graze Buzzell – Libero – Senior – Neah Bay
Graze Buzzell didn’t need a deep State Championship run to cement her name as an All-State second team member. During Neah Bay’s two matches in Yakima last year the 5’2” defender had all the time she needed to turn some heads and establish herself as one of the most talented and efficient defenders in the entire division.
