We can’t help but think about which teams will play the best volleyball and which players will set themselves apart from the competition when the balls are finally allowed to start flying. It’s way too early, I know, but here are my best guesses about who will make it to the All-State Team in the class 2A next season.
Amey Rainaud – Setter – Junior – Burlington-Edison
A key member of the Burlington-Edison team that finished fourth in the division last season, Amey Rainaud should have no trouble in making the jump from the All-State second team to the first unit in 2020. If she maintains the same kind of performances she displayed for the Tigers last season, which had her handing 921 assists, making 297 digs, registering 67 aces and notching 45 kills, there’s no reason why the 5’6” setter wouldn’t be a first-team selection.
Abby Harrell– Outside Hitter – Sophomore – Ellensburg
Despite being the only freshman on Ellensburg’s veteran roster in 2019, Abby Harrell ended up as one of the most important players for the Bulldogs, who were second in the division. The 5’9” outside hitter added a lot to the perennial contender’s firepower with a solid offensive game, which was highlighted by 277 kills, 49 blocks and 28 aces, but also helped on defense with 224 digs. An All-State first-team selection in 2019, she seems poised to a repeat next season.
MiKayla Uhlenkott – Outside Hitter/Opposite – Senior – Pullman
MiKayla Uhlenkott is one of the most lethal hitters in the entire division as her offensive game combines the power would expect from a 6’1” prospect with impressive versatility. More than just jumping high and hitting the ball hard, the Pullman talent has a wide variety of shots, which she uses wisely when at the net. Her game took her to the All-State first team in 2019 even if the Greyhounds didn’t contend for the title.
Reaghan Naboychik – Outside Hitter – Junior – Ellensburg
The outside hitter combo of Reaghan Naboychik and Abby Harrell is Ellensburg’s heart and soul and it could be repeated in the All-State team in 2020. The 5’8” Naboychik, a second-team selection in 2019, was very effective in her sophomore season for the Bulldogs, especially at the net, as she led the team in kills (282) and was third in blocks (32).
Allie Andrew Allie Andrew 6'4" | MB Ridgefield | 2021 State WA – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Ridgefield
A key member of Ridgefield’s championship-winning team in 2019, Allie Andrew Allie Andrew 6'4" | MB Ridgefield | 2021 State WA , prepdig.com’s second-placed prospect in the class of 2021 ranking, had 12 kills in the State Championship final against Ellensburg. Already committed to Baylor, she’s lethal at the net with her 6’4” size, but also more mobile than many would expect and uses her feet extremely well when hitting and blocking. If she continues developing at the same pace, making the jump from the second team she was at in 2019 to the first should be an absolute given.
Emma Swett Emma Swett 6'1" | MB Woodland | 2021 State WA – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Woodland
Emma Swett Emma Swett 6'1" | MB Woodland | 2021 State WA is another dominant middle-blocker, who seems to be in pace for an All-State first-team selection in 2020. Ranked third at prepdig.com’s class of 2021 list, the 6’1” Woodland prospect has more of an all-around game though as she helped Beavers in multiple departments with 269 kills, 58 aces, 41 blocks and 196 digs last season, earning her an All-State team honorable mention.
Emilea Stepaniuk Emilea Stepaniuk 5'7" | DS/L Ridgefield | 2021 State WA – Libero/Defensive Specialist – Senior – Ridgefield
Emilea Stepaniuk Emilea Stepaniuk 5'7" | DS/L Ridgefield | 2021 State WA has shown she can lead the backcourt of a winning team as her presence helped Ridgefield triumphing at the State Championship in the last two seasons. The 27-dig performance against Ellensburg in last year’s final left no question about her talent and cemented her spot in the All-State second team. The 5’7” defender, who combines great technical skills with an unparalleled quickness, ranks ninth at prepdig.com’s class of 2021 ranking.
