Second, there are multiple kids that, given the right circumstances, could make major strides this fall and get a little more noticed before club season comes around. Oddly enough, four of the five kids listed are middles, which leads me to believe that Indiana has more middles than it can handle—usually there aren’t enough middles to fill out a team, let alone an entire graduating class.
#20: Lovie Wallace Lovie Wallace 6'0" | MB Hamilton Southeastern | 2022 State IN , 6-0, MB, Hamilton Southeastern (was #27)
Far and away the biggest move (and subsequent shock) was Miss Wallace moving from 2A state champ Heritage Christian to 4A runner-up Hamilton Southeastern. It’s not as if HSE graduated a major middle from their program, it’s just that Lovie is an immediate plug-and-play difference maker that makes the Royals better for the fall. This is a Munciana-trained middle that is physical and can be placed in the M1 or M2 position for a state title contender.
#60: Paige Powers Paige Powers 6'1" | MB Angola | 2022 State IN , 6-1, MB, Angola (was unranked)
This Impact VBC kid always looks ready. She’s loaded to block on every play and has fast enough feet to transition for a zero tempo ball. I had limited information on Paige during the club season, for obvious reasons. With Angola graduating pretty much everyone from last fall, Miss Powers will be heavily relied upon to get the job done in the middle.
#69: Gentry Warrick Gentry Warrick 6'0" | MB Linton-Stockton | 2022 State IN , 6-0, MB, Linton-Stockton (was unranked)
I list Miss Warrick as a middle because the majority of her responsibilities both offensively and defensively are in the middle. The curse of being a tall athlete, I guess. However, Gentry is full capable of playing all three front row positions, and probably projects out to being a RS or three-rotation OH at the next level. Her quick springs and tough jump float serve are also strong parts of her game.
#78: Kyra Sharp Kyra Sharp 5'11" | RS Floyd Central | 2022 State IN , 5-11, RS, Floyd Central (was unranked)
Although seeing a ton of reps on both pins, Kyra projects out to a RS at the next level. She’s a primary part of FC’s 6-2 as their RS, but her KIVA training has her volleyball IQ through the roof, making her extra valuable come tournament time. Once again, this is another kid that I have limited information on, due to Big Rona rearing her ugly head this spring and summer. Stay tuned.
#87: Holly Linville Holly Linville 5'9" | MB Covington | 2022 State IN , 5-9, MB, Covington (was unranked)
Our second representative from COA, Miss Linville will probably see the majority of her time at the next level as a RS or three-rotation OH. For now, however, her quick feet and experience in multiple positions make her an ideal utility attacker. The only thing keeping Holly from moving up this board quickly is her habit to hit balls on her way down. At this level, she’ll be fine. As she gets older, however, fixing her timing will allow her to attack over blocks instead of around them.
