#5: Emily Weber Emily Weber 6'0" | S Hamilton Southeastern | 2022 State #139 Nation IN , 5-11, Hamilton Southeastern
The setter of Academy’s 17-1 team this past spring successfully ran a 5-1 after going through a high school season successfully being part of a 5-2 (No, seriously, a 5-2. Look it up.). She can get to balls that are passed tight as easily as getting to balls that are poorly passed off the net, all while making the set not only better, but hittable. She plays great defense as well, and is perfecting the art of setting by knowing whom to set in what situation. She also has quite a few tournament victories in club to go along with her Class 4A state runner-up trophy. This is a can’t-miss, high character kid that can run the show.
#7: Grace Reynolds Grace Reynolds 5'9" | S Martinsville | 2022 State #167 Nation IN , 5-8, Martinsville
A different type of setter, Grace relies on her soft hands to be, arguably, the most accurate setter on this list. Quite and unassuming, her club training at Circle City has done her well to go from unknown just two years ago to a top ten type of talent in this graduating class. Work ethic and confidence drive this gym rat to excellence.
#8: Ella Bostic Ella Bostic 6'0" | S Carmel | 2022 State #45 Nation IN , 6-0, Carmel
Not far behind Grace in skill, it’s hard to compare the two, considering how different they approach the game. This Munciana kid will also run a 5-1 this fall, and with no superstars emerging from the Greyhound huddle, Ella is excellent at making the right set at the right time regardless of position, where the ball was passed or situation. She has a little ways to go to catch up to the two ahead of her, but honestly, this is another top ten setter in this class.
#28: Reagan Nuss Reagan Nuss 5'6" | S Brownstown Central | 2022 State IN , 5-6, Brownstown
The only state champion on this list, Reagan is a first-team all state 3A player that has run the show at Brownstown since her freshman year. Her size makes her overlooked for all of the wrong reasons. No, she doesn’t block as well as the other three listed ahead of her. But she gets to balls Emily can’t get to, sets the tight balls that Grace struggles with, and plays better defense than Ella. This is a kid that, given the right opportunity, is fully capable of running the show at the next level.
#33: Kelsey Smith Kelsey Smith 6'0" | S Hamilton Heights | 2022 State IN , 6-0, Hamilton Heights
Kelsey is at Academy’s satellite regional club called Grand Park, and does what the rest of the kids on this list physically can’t. During this past club season, I watched Miss Smith run an offense in the back row and attack touch on the right side close to ten feet when she was in the front. At Hamilton Heights, she’s going to be asked to do more of the same, and this is the only kid on this list that can actually pull off multiple positions. Stay tuned.
