There are plenty of options, depending on what your needs entail. A three-rotation DS? An immediate plug-and-play libero? A future libero? The list here is endless. For now, we touch on our top five available.
#17: Taylor Lauri Taylor Lauri 5'8" | DS/L Hamilton Southeastern | 2021 State IN , 5-8, Hamilton Southeastern
We start with the only junior on Circle’s 18-1 team from this past season. A smooth and steady three-rotation DS that can plug and play at the next level immediately. She even spent a little time in previous club seasons attacking as a six-rotation OH. A kid from the 4A state runner-up with this skill set needs to have a home, and soon.
#24: Lexi Brehl Lexi Brehl 5'8" | DS/L Carmel | 2021 State IN , 5-8, Carmel
Another plug-and-play three-rotation DS that has spent some time this past club season with the libero jersey on is what you get out of Lexi. She spent time training under Corky Robertson at Academy on their 17-1, and has a few tournament trophies because of it. And, just like Taylor listed above, she’s spent a little time attacking in previous school and club seasons.
#38: Libby Steinhart Libby Steinhart 5'7" | DS/L Mount Vernon (Posey) | 2021 State IN , 5-7, Mount Vernon (Posey)
This is a new addition to the rankings list, and I have her this high for one simple reason; range. She, unlike the ladies listed above, IS both her high school and club team’s libero, and she gets to balls that are out of the range of most kids her size. She stays on her feet when needed, and does all of the dirty work in coverage, defending the left back and serve receive. She can definitely don the special jersey at the next level, and her energy will help coach the back row for you.
#54: Delaney Needham Delaney Needham 5'6" | DS/L Avon | 2021 State IN , 5-6, Avon
A young junior, this kid has all of the tools to be able to defend any position in the back row with ease. Being a gym rat, she’ll do what’s necessary, without complaint and without accolade. Unassuming, hard-working and varying skill set are the three traits that lead me down the path of “college prospect” with this one.
#55: Bella Schumacher Bella Schumacher 5'7" | DS/L Brebeuf Jesuit | 2021 State IN , 5-7, Brebeuf Preparatory
Another steady-Eddie from Academy’s 17-1, Bella’s smooth and even-keeled approach to the game stands out more than some of the high-energy DS’s out there. She’s spent time in all three positions in the back row, but seems to thrive in middle back. With Bella on the floor, you just don’t have to worry about her, and can spend more time coaching up the kids around her. I look forward to watching Brebeuf play this coming fall, when Miss Schumacher can enjoy her senior season.
