Sunset Slam Session 2: All Commits and Matchups

The sun is setting on the summer and why not finish it with the Sunset Slam with some of the top teams across all parts of Wisconsin coming to the Champion Center in Appleton to compete one last time before they will start school. Some will start their season on September 7, others will move on to fall training, leagues, and club before they have their high school season in the spring. Here is a list of some of the athletes who are committed as well as the brackets heading into the Sunset Slam – Session 2.

The NSIC Bracket – Northern Sun Conference Bracket
The NSIC is one of the best Division 2 conferences in the country with teams in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Iowa. Many Wisconsin athletes have given their verbal to play at schools in this conference. Here are some athletes from the Class of 2020 who are heading to NSIC Schools.

The GLVC Bracket – The Great Lakes Valley Conference
This Division 2 Conference also produces some of the top teams in the country which is comprised of schools in Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri. Lewis University has produced some top teams in the country in womens as well as men’s volleyball. Lewis was the conference champion, but was knocked out by conference rival Rockhurst out of Kansas City who advanced to the D2 National Semifinals. Rockhurst has Wisconsin native Averi Vomastic which her high school team of Shawano will be in this tournament field.
The Big East Bracket
The Big East is home to in-state Marquette who has made their way of knocking off top teams throughout the country and has been in the hunt for Big East titles going head to head with Creighton year in and year out. Last week at our Sunset Slam there were two future Marquette commits from Edgewood in Ella Foti Ella Foti 6'0" | S Madison Edgewood | 2021 State WI and Natalie Ring Natalie Ring 6'1" | OH Edgewood | 2022 State #177 Nation WI , we also had another Big East commit in Anna Holland Anna Holland 5'6" | DS/L Waukesha West | 2021 State WI who will head to Seton Hall in New York. Creighton is another top program in the Big East and has launched themselves into one of the top programs in the country and feature Wisconsin natives Kiana Schmitt Kiana Schmitt 6'3" | MB Waunakee | 2019 State WI (Waunakee), Makenna Krause Makenna Krause 5'6" | L/DS Hortonville | 2019 State WI (Hortonville), and Kiara Reinhardt Kiara Reinhardt 6'3" | MB Cedarburg | 2020 State WI (Cedarburg).
The Horizon League Bracket
Green Bay and Milwaukee are the in-state programs part of the Horizon League and have found big success the past few seasons. Green Bay won the League title in 2018, advancing to the NCAA Tournament with a roster full of in-state talent. Cora Behnke Cora Behnke 6'0" | OH Oconto | 2021 State WI and Abby Gardner Abby Gardner 5'9" | DS/L Mukwonago | 2021 State WI who will be participating in the Sunset Slam will be part of their 2021 recruiting class. Milwaukee was one of the hottest teams in the country to start the season in 2019 and was a Horizon League Tournament runner-up. Ari Miller who prepped at Kettle Moraine Lutheran was the Freshman of the Year in the Horizon League.
The Big Ten Bracket
It’s no secret the Big Ten sets the standard for most in college volleyball, making it a tradition to have multiple teams in the final four each season. Manitowoc Lincoln, who is playing in the Sunset Slam on Wednesday is the home of former Badger Mallory Dixon. Menomonee Falls who will be playing as well has a famous alum in Simone Lee who went on to be an All American at Penn State. Howards Grove has incoming Sophomore Saige Damrow Saige Damrow 5'8" | DS/L Howards Grove | 2023 State #17 Nation WI who has already given her verbal to play for the Badgers.
