Somerset is expected to show improvement early in the 2020 high school volleyball season. Following a loss to rival Pulaski County in the opening round of the 47th District Volleyball Tournament, Somerset exited the 2019 season 8-20.
More than one Somerset senior is poised to lead during the upcoming prep volleyball campaign.
Here are three Somerset seniors to watch.
Trinity Burkett: A versatile player, Burkett has contributed from multiple positions for Somerset throughout her high school volleyball career. Burkett led Somerset as a junior during the 2019 high school volleyball season, pacing the Briar jumpers in kills, digs and service aces. The productive Burkett posted 308 kills, 209 digs, 70 aces, 31 blocks and 22 aces in 2019. Comfortable playing on various parts of the court, Burkett possesses strong jumping ability and has shown that she can record digs consistently.
Molly Loy: A middle hitter, Loy appeared in 27 of Somerset’s 28 matches during the 2019 high school volleyball season. As a junior in 2019, Loy recorded 137 kills, 22 blocks, 61 digs and 34 service aces for 47th District member Somerset. Agile, Loy moves well from side to side and is a strong hitter.
Zoey Thompson: A libero, Thompson thrived defensively for Somerset in 2019.
