The top four remain from last week, with a minor adjustment, and we have a returning team to the top five. I’d like to personally thank Zach McCrite and his website, IndianaPrepVolleyball.com, for his help in making these ranking happen. #5: Tecumseh, 18-1
Last week: NR
The Braves have shown that they are for real with a recent sweep over 1A #4 Springs Valley, and a pair of four-set wins over Evansville Mater Dei (14-9) and North Posey (13-5). A season-ending match against 2A #1 Barr-Reeve will be an excellent gauge as to how prepared they are for the postseason. All-State honoree Kaybree Oxley Kaybree Oxley 5'10" | MB Tecumseh | 2022 State IN (’22, 5-10, MB) continues the lead-by-example routine by leading in kills (163), hitting percentage (.371) and total blocks (49).
#4: Heritage Christian, 21-2
Last week: #3
Back-to-back losses to 4A Greenfield-Central on Saturday and 4A Roncalli last night in five pushed the Eagles down a bit, but not out of the top five. Although the conference title is more or less out of their hands, Lilly Snyder Lilly Snyder 5'9" | S Heritage Christian | 2021 State IN (’21, 5-9, S) is one of TEN seniors on this squad that want to get back to the title match and repeat. Miss Snyder’s 51 assists last night almost led to a double-double (9 digs), but when you’re up 2-0 at home in conference, you must finish. Hopefully, this is only a bump on the road to Ball State in November.
#3: Andrean, 11-2
Last week: #4
A few adjustments in their schedule has the Fighting 59ers playing a few less matches than their fellow teams in 2A, but no matter. This is still Angelina Majchrowicz Angelina Majchrowicz 6'0" | OH Andrean | 2022 State IN ’s (’22, 6-0, OH) team, averaging over three kills per set while also leading in aces and is second in digs. Hopefully, they get enough play and preparation before the sectional starts on October 13.
#2: Wapahani, 19-1
Last week: #2
The Raiders have lost once, to 4A #1 (last week) Yorktown on September 1, and haven’t lost since. In those fourteen matches, they’ve dropped four sets. Looks like Wapahani is ready for the postseason. Their last three matches this season are against Indiana volleyball royalty; hosting defending 1A champ Cowan for the conference title, hosting 3A #2 Muncie Burris and at 3A #1 and last year’s runner-up Bellmont. There’s no better preparation than playing the best. Chloe Cook Chloe Cook 5'9" | OH Wapahani | 2023 State IN (’23, 5-9, OH) is the pacesetter for the Raiders, with over 200 kills on the season while hitting nearly .300.
#1: Barr-Reeve, 20-2
Last week: #1
Anyone else see a collision course happening with these two teams? Wapahani from the north and Barr-Reeve from the south would make a great 2A final. They haven’t so much as dropped a set since their five-set win over 4A Floyd Central on September 9, and might not drop another until October 8 when they play at 2A #5 Tecumseh. Anna Ballengee Anna Ballengee 5'10" | DS/L Barr-Reeve | 2021 State IN (’21, Southern Indiana commit) is the engine that makes the Vikings go, leading in kills (5.1/set) and hitting percentage (.366). Anna is also one of six seniors looking to get that last win of the season to cap off what’s been an epic career for the class of 2021.
