The Bowling Green Purples will have an interesting story to tell in 2020 because of their senior class. Each player dressed on the varsity team as freshmen and then earned their starting spot as sophomores. Junior year, they fell short of their goals where they lost to South Warren in the district semifinals and had a losing record. This means they will definitely be looking for redemption in their final season and to turn around the program, so they can make this one: one to remember. Here are the three seniors that will impact Purples volleyball incredibly in 2020.
Anna Neal (to the right)– A 5’10 middle hitter, Anna Neal exerts dominance at the net while also showing leadership to her teammates. Neal has been from the ground up where freshmen year, she was used as a utility player. Moreover, she was put in at random times on the court when the coach subbed in her. She played outside, middle, and right for the varsity squad as a freshmen! Then, Coach Wininger put her as an outside for the first part of her sophomore year and eventually moved her to middle. All of this transition shows how flexible Anna is and how she’ll work for the team at any position. Neal is fun to watch because of how mentally tough she is as well as her competitive drive.
Kenley Woodyard- Another big hitter, Woodyard stands at 5’11, but this isn’t the only thing awesome about her. Kenley Woodyard is one of those players that cares so much for the game. She wants to get better not just for herself but for her teammates around her. Woodyard always shows perseverance on the court and never fails to not have a smile on her face. Starting for the Purples since freshmen year, Kenley has put in the work to have a successful senior year. It will be fun to see her hit right side in 2020.
Makenna Twyman (to the right)– The last senior may not be tall, but she has a true love for the game. One of Twyman’s biggest attributes is having a heart of gold where she pushes her teammates not only on the court but off too. As a senior, it’s your job to create a good culture among the team, and Twyman exceeds these expectations. She’s that kid whose asking her teammate how her day went and if she needs a ride after practice while also showing her athleticism and skill on the court. Twyman is lightning fast and has great defense which makes her a leader by example. Makenna is still uncommitted and looking for a school to play volleyball at. Watch out for her this year!
