Continue ReadingScoring is a key aspect of the game of volleyball. It doesn’t matter how good a team is in defense or if it has a great setter, if it doesn’t score points there’s no way it will win a match. Even though a good offense is the one that involves at least a few players, some hitters naturally are more used by their teams due to their great efficiency and these are five athletes who had these roles at the Class 4A in 2019 and will likely carry the same loads again next season.
Hailey Brockway Hailey Brockway 6'0" | OH Graham-Kapowskin | 2023 State #125 Nation WA – Outside Hitter – Sophomore – Graham-Kapowsin
Hailey Brockway Hailey Brockway 6'0" | OH Graham-Kapowskin | 2023 State #125 Nation WA was a scoring machine for Graham-Kapowsin during her freshman year in 2019. The six-foot outside hitter took no time to become the Eagles’ go-to scoring option and responded to the challenge as well as she could have, leading the team with 472 kills (5.9 per set), three times more than the second-ranked player in the roster. Unsurprisingly, she was an All-State first-team selection. All of that made of her an automatic nomination for prepdig.com’s class of 2023 watch list.
Rachel Davis – Outside Hitter – Senior – Tahoma
Rachel Davis was one of the leading scorers of State champions Tahoma in 2019. The 5’9” outside hitter excelled with her all-around game but was lethal at the net due to her quick approach, huge vertical and wide variety of shots. Her role with the Lady Bears earned her an All-State team honorable mention.
Samaya Morin Samaya Morin 6'1" | OH Lake Stevens | 2021 State WA – Outside Hitter – Senior – Lake Stevens
A future beach volleyball collegiate student-athlete already committed to Grand Canyon, Samaya Morin Samaya Morin 6'1" | OH Lake Stevens | 2021 State WA did all she could to give Lake Stevens a State Championship title in 20219. Her 17 kills against Tahoma might not have been enough, but were a great representation of the six-foot outside hitter’s great performance last season, which saw her register 322 kills for the Vikings and earn an All-State first-time nomination. Morin is also the fourth-ranked player at prepdig.com’s class of 2021 ranking.
Kyleene Filimaua – Outside Hitter – Sophomore – North Creek
Kyleene Filimaua is one of the best all-around prospects in the entire state and her skills took her to have the rare privilege of securing a collegiate verbal commitment with Florida State even before she even played a high school volleyball match. The six-foot outside hitter, who will play both beach and indoor in Florida, didn’t disappoint North Creek in her freshman year by taking the Bothell school to a State Championship fifth-place and making it to the All-State first team along the way. Her offensive game was at full display in Yakima as she led the team in kills with 81.
Sage Brustad – Outside Hitter – Senior – Richland
Sage Brustad is one of the most efficient hitters in the entire division. Her play in 2019 was instrumental to take Richland to an eighth-place at the State Championship as the 6’1” outside hitter used her size and skills to record 225 kills for the Bombers. Her talent, which had her as an All-State first team member in 2018, when Richland appeared in the final, and a second-team nomination last year, has already secured her a collegiate career with Eastern Washington University.
