So, then, it’s time for Pool B. I got to watch much of this pool in person as Papillion-La Vista South, Elkhorn, Lincoln Pius X, and Lincoln Southwest took the floor.
There were players who stood out fairly quickly from this group of talented teams. Learn about some of them here!
Harlei Cole Harlei Cole 5'6" | DS/L Papillion-La Vista South | 2022 State NE – 5’6 DS – Papillion-La Vista South – Class of 2022
Papillon-La Vista South has perhaps the best passing team in the state. It’s a bold statement, but I’m standing by it. Cole is a defensive specialist who plays a big role in making it all happen. She’s so consistent in her passing and defense. That’s not all she does, though. Watch Cole’s swings out of the pipe and you’ll understand why the Titans are so happy to have this rising star.

Breckyn Moore Breckyn Moore 5'7" | DS/L Papillion-LaVista South | 2021 State NE – 5’7 RS – Papillion-La Vista South – Class of 2021
Don’t tell Moore she’s undersized. This senior hitter was extremely effective on the right pin throughout the day. She jumps well, and that allows her to hit with the kind of range you’d expect from someone much taller. Moore has plenty of shots, too, as she tooled even the most formidable blocks. This team, meanwhile, already looks set to charge right into the postseason.

Regan Haith Regan Haith 6'1" | MB Lincoln Pius X | 2022 State NE – 6’1 MB – Lincoln Pius X – Class of 2022
Haith is a hard-hitting middle blocker who still has plenty of time to get even better. She swings so well in front of her setter. I imagine she’ll work in an effective slide attack on this roster that already has some slide experts. I’ve previously made mention of the other starting middle for Pius, Cora Thomas Cora Thomas 5'11" | MB Lincoln Pius X | 2021 NE , but don’t lose sight of the all-around game that Haith is putting together.
Alexis Markowski Alexis Markowski 6'3" | MB Lincoln Pius X | 2021 State NE – 6’3 OH/MB – Lincoln Pius X – Class of 2021 (Nebraska Basketball Commit)
Markowski is an incredibly gifted athlete. That’s obvious. The Nebraska basketball commit has accomplished so much on a variety of courts, and she continued that success on Saturday. She has a unique ability to put some heat on her swings even when she’s off-balance. Markowski has got plenty of work in the middle over her career, but she thrived on the left pin in Pool B play. The Thunderbolts remain a serious title contender.

Haley Wolfe Haley Wolfe 6'2" | RS Elkhorn | 2023 State NE – 6’0 OH/RS – Elkhorn – Class of 2023
The Antlers have plenty of talented pin hitters, and Wolfe was one that really stood out. There’s no question that she can swing hard, but she’s also got the finesse that drives backcourt defenders crazy. Wolfe can also pass exceptionally well, which allows her teammates to have big moments of their own. Elkhorn feels great about the season ahead, and their corps of pin hitters is a big reason why.

Abbie Nadgwick Abbie Nadgwick 5'11" | S Elkhorn | 2021 State NE – 5’11 S – Elkhorn – Class of 2021
In all this discussion of Elkhorn’s outside hitters, don’t forget about the big-time talent they have at setter. Now, Nadgwick might look like another pin hitter out there, because she’s very long and tall. But this setter combines her length with a great set of hands that puts all her talented hitters in great spots. Nadgwick has a deadly dump that makes the Antler offense even harder to stop. Yes, this group can compete for a Class B title.

Courtney Holsteen Courtney Holsteen 6'0" | RS Lincoln Southwest | 2022 State NE – 6’0 OH/RS – Lincoln Southwest – Class of 2022
The host Silver Hawks showed me that they have an emerging star at opposite. Holsteen is so fun to watch when she’s in rhythm on the right pin. She can absolutely pound the ball down the line. Her deadly line shot also translates to a wicked serve behind the line. It will be fun to watch Holsteen develop as the Lincoln Southwest looks to take a step forward this year.

Shaylee Myers Shaylee Myers 6'0" | OH Lincoln Southwest | 2022 State #199 Nation NE – 6’0 OH – Lincoln Southwest – Class of 2022
I had high expectations for the Fresno State commit coming into this pool, and she performed even better than I could have imagined. This junior outside hitter is simply electrifying, and her heavy arm is nearly impossible to defend. There’s no doubt that she hit one of the hardest balls of anyone at the gym that day, but Myers can do so much more. Her passing responsibilities on this team are huge, and she always delivers. The Bulldogs are getting a great one.
Going to a third!
