They split the 42 teams up into two-bracket fields. The top 16 teams are in the Red Division, which they consider the top 16 teams in the tourney, and then the remaining 26 move the Black Division. They did this a couple of years ago to make more of an even playing field. We will take a look at the top 16 teams.
Pool A
Dexter led by seniors Chloe Thurmon and Bailey Chamberlain. Should be a top 2 finisher in this pool.
Valle Ste Gen Riley Siebert and Hailey Weibrecht have the warriors off to a 3-0 start. Should be a top 2 finisher in the pool.
Cape Central Not usually a strong Class 4 program. Not much info out on this team. Lost to several Class 1 teams in the tourney last year.
South Iron Panthers are off to a 4-0 start to the season. Sophomores Drew Gayle and Madison Ayers have the hot hands for this team.
Pool B
Cape Notre Dame Opened the season with a 3-2 win over Farmington. 18 kills from junior Rylee McClintock in the win.
Park Hills Central Lizi Marler and Liberty Coleman Liberty Coleman MB Central | 2021 MO have the Rebels off to a 1-1 start. This pool will be a battle for the top 2 spots.
Lesterville Mallory Polk Mallory Polk 5'10" | MB Lesterville | 2021 State MO leads this team as a senior but gets plenty of help from sophomores Reese Gray, Piper Fitzgerald, and Grace Hicks.
Bloomfield started the season with a loss to Dexter. Melanie Phillips and Molly Below return to guide the Wildcats.
Pool C
Eminence Tradition rich Redwings return 6’4 Tristan Weaver and much improved over last seasons 8-18 record.
Farmington Knights have two sophomore kill leaders to start the year in Jade Roth and Grace Duncan.
Saxony Lutheran returns Lauren Barnes on offense and Emma Voelker with the assist this year.
Cabool Hailey Shannon, Josie Atkins, Olivia Scheets guide this three-headed monster into their first year at Dig for Life.
Pool D
Arcadia Valley Tigers go as Maddie Dement goes. Dement has 35 kills in a 3-1 win to start the season.
Summersville got a young team that made the state playoffs last year. It should be interesting to see what they do—lost the first game of the season.
Woodland Addie Johnson and Chloe Goodwin got the Cardinals off to a good start to begin the season.
Ellington Took a 0-3 loss to Lesterville to open the season. A young team with the potential to come on very strong at the end of the year.
Depending on how these teams fall in the crossover matches for the gold bracket, anyone can win this tourney. I don’t see an overwhelming favorite at this point.
Crossover matches how teams finish in each pool. Then winner/loser of each match will determine where you fall in the Gold and Silver bracket playoffs.
