With virtual, hybrid, or full-time school, navigating the next step for their athletic and academic careers – it’s a lot to process and then add on their high school season and it’s ever-evolving. However, once these athletes get on the court it’s the same routine of competing, doing what they love, and being with their friends. Here are some uncommitted Seniors that would be ones to watch throughout this season.
The Mount Vernon Senior Class
Mount Vernon has nine Seniors on their team and most have been part of multiple state tournaments and last years 2019 state championship. They carry themselves with such maturity and composure. They are off to a 9-0 start. Sydney Dennis Sydney Dennis 5'5" | DS/L Mount Vernon | 2021 State IA (Iowa) and Natalie Welch Natalie Welch 6'0" | RS Mount Vernon | 2021 State IA (Southwest Minnesota State) are committed, but plenty would be a great addition at the next level. Jorie Randall Jorie Randall 5'7" | DS/L Mount Vernon | 2021 State IA is a top notch libero and outside hitter Lauren Schrock Lauren Schrock 6'2" | OH Mount Vernon | 2021 State IA is extremely dominant from the pin. Madi Cranston and Camryn Ellyson Camryn Ellyson MB Mount Vernon | 2021 State IA have been highly effective and efficient so far this season as well.
Abby Hamann – Grundy Center
Hamann can fly from the outside and has quite the arm. She is able to put an extreme out of velocity on her swing, creating a really heavy ball. She is also a major threat to score points from the service line. Her ability to hit angles and find an open spot is a great way for the Spartans to open up their offense knowing they always have Hamann for an outlet on the outside.

Sydney Mosinski Sydney Mosinski DS/L Nevada | 2021 State IA – Nevada
Mosinski had a huge impact for the Cubs last year enroute to their state tournament and this year is no different having a major impact offensively, defensively, and providing a spark of leadership. Mosinski has run a variety of routes from the middle and is extremely dangerous off one foot. She was key in the Cubs late rally to defeat Beckman late in the third set after being down.
Makayla Koelker – Beckman Catholic
Koelker has been running the show for Beckman in this short season and is so smooth with running a balanced offense. Koelker has racked up over 150 assists and that has been without Iowa State commit Kiersten Schmitt Kiersten Schmitt 6'0" | OH Beckman | 2022 State #103 Nation IA who is back in action this week. One thing that stands out about Koelker is how well she can run her middles. When the Blazers are in system, she can get them the ball with a variety of tempos and really cause some havoc offensively.
Hannah Thomsen Hannah Thomsen OH Nevada | 2021 State IA – Nevada
Thomsen is a major X-Factor for Nevada with her left handed swing from the right side. She is highly efficient and finds a way to make the smart play which also scoring points. Thomsen can also provide a solid block with the combination of their middles which makes for a mismatch against most outside hitters. Nevada has played a rugged schedule and had an impressive showing with their only loss this weekend coming to Dike-New Hartford along with a big 3-2 win against Beckman.
