#5: Heritage Christian, 22-2
The Eagles slip one spot from last week’s rankings, but still find themselves in the mix to repeat this year. Raven Colvin Raven Colvin 6'0" | MB Heritage Christian | 2021 State IN (’21, 6-0, MB, Purdue commit) did all she could against 4A Roncalli for the conference crown, with 23 kills and 7 blocks. The Eagles open their title defense against a feisty 19-6 Park Tudor.
#4: Tecumseh, 18-2
Swapping spots with the defending state champ is no small feat. The conference title is on the line tonight at Mount Vernon (Posey), who has seen some time in the top five as well. There are a lot of moving parts to the Braves’ remaining schedule, but the bottom line is this; in order to win state, you have to win the sectional first, and their possible sectional semifinal matchup against Evansville Mater Dei (16-9) will be a tough test; they played to a long four-set win previously this fall. First team All-State Kaybree Oxley Kaybree Oxley 5'10" | MB Tecumseh | 2022 State IN (’22, 5-10, MB) paces the Brave’s attack with 173 kills on the season, hitting over .350 and leading the team in blocks.
#3: Andrean, 11-4
Don’t be fooled. Two of those four losses are against 4A #3 Munster. And the only real competition the Fighting 59ers will see in the sectional is possibly in the final against Illiana Christian. The two teams were supposed to play each other, but the mystery surrounding the “covid situation” remains a question mark as to what might have been. Should be an interesting matchup. We’re still big fans of Angelina Majchrowicz Angelina Majchrowicz 6'0" | OH Andrean | 2022 State IN (’22, 6-0, OH), who leads Andrean in kills and aces, and is second in digs.
#2: Wapahani, 21-2
I’m going out on a limb here to say that Wapahani is finding all of the video in the world right now on how to beat Heritage Christian for a revenge match in the championship. The Raiders this season have lost to Yorktown and…..Yorktown, 4A’s #2 team. With zero losses against anyone else, and none likely to come before the sectional, the Raiders should keep their eye on Alexandria-Monroe (18-6) in a possible sectional semifinal matchup. Sophomore Chloe Cook Chloe Cook 5'9" | OH Wapahani | 2023 State IN (’23, 5-9, OH) leads a balanced Raider attack, already with more than 200 kills on the season.
#1: Barr-Reeve, 23-2
Speaking of revenge matches against HC (Barr-Reeve lost to Heritage Christian in the state semifinal a year ago), the Vikings have prepped their regular season schedule to be the toughest at the end. With a conference title all but wrapped up tonight and a Thursday showdown with 2A #4 Tecumseh, the Columbus East Invitational on Saturday will put the Vikings to the test at the perfect time. Additionally, they won’t receive a challenge in the sectional until the title match, which could pit the Vikings against a tough Linton-Stockton team (20-5), whom BR swept back in August. Anna Ballengee Anna Ballengee 5'10" | DS/L Barr-Reeve | 2021 State IN (’21, Southern Indiana commit) is a do-everything leader looking for one last shot at a state title.
