However, we are at this point; Win or Go Home! Let’s take a look at two districts and do our best to predict who will move on in each round and become district champions. The winner of these two districts will face off in sectional play this weekend.
District 13: (1) Santa Fe (2) Sacred Heart (3) Concordia (4) Sweet Springs (5) Northwest (Hughesville) (6) La Monte – October 26-27, October 29th @ Sacred Heart
Santa Fe (21-3-2), winners of ten straight will be the top seed. They own a 3-1 victory over 2nd seed Sacred Heart earlier this season. Junior Isabella Limback has 400 kills entering postseason play. Sacred Heart (19-7-1) is also a winner of ten in a row heading into play this week. The Gremlins have gotten strong play from Sophomore Emma Siron and her 300 kills this fall. The third seed will be Concordia (8-2) has had limited action this fall. They had close to a 4-week break and returned to split their final two matches before district play starts. The loss of games and action may prove to be difficult to overcome this week. The number 4 seed, Sweet Springs (6-8) are another team that appears to have to deal with the pandemic. They played on September 16th and didn’t play again until October 12th. They won their first two games after their restart but have lost the other four. Northwest (5-9) has limited action this fall. La Monte (2-13) is the final team in this district.
The top two seeds will sit and watch day 1. Concordia will handle La Monte. Sweet Springs over Northwest. Santa Fe will defeat Sweet Springs. Sacred Heart will make easy work of Concordia. The championship will be a back and forth. As mentioned, Santa Fe earned their win in the first match. Limback will outduel Siron in this battle of hitters to win the title.
District 15: (1) St. Joseph Christian (2) Wellington-Napoleon (3) Plattsburg (4) South Holt (5) Union Star (6) Orrick – October 26th and October 28th @ Plattsburg
St. Joseph Christian (23-1) will be your top seed in District 15 play starting this evening. They haven’t tasted defeat since October 1st Seniors Tori Hudgens and Brooklyn Miller have been fantastic for the Lions. The number 2 seed will be Wellington-Napoleon (16-5-1). They have been successful this fall behind aggressive serving and strong defense. The Tigers will be the 3rd seed in this district. Plattsburg (12-8-1) has faced Wellington-Napoleon and lost in three. They will rely on the play of Lauren Masters to advance. South Holt (10-12) broke a two-game losing streak in their last match. They hope to use that win as momentum heading into districts. The fifth seed, Union Star (5-13) comes in losers of five in a row. They did battle to a close 5 set loss in their last match. Freshman Kelly Cibon has shown she has a bright future ahead of her. The final team will be Orrick (0-17), who is winless on the season and will look to get a set in district play.
The top two seeds will have first-round byes. Plattsburg will have an easy-going with Orrick. South Holt will defeat Union Star. In the semi-finals look for the top two seeds to advance to the finals where we have St. Joseph Central keep their winning streak alive to capture a district title.
