However, we are at this point; Win or Go Home! Let’s take a look at two districts and do our best to predict who will move on in each round and become district champions. The winner of these two districts will face off in sectional play this weekend.
District 14: (1) Midway (2) Archie (3) Drexel (4) Lutheran (Kansas City) (5) Kingsville (6) Crest Ridge – October 26-27th, October 29th @ Midway
This is one of the more competitive districts across the class. The top seed Midway Wikings are 15-1 and haven’t tasted defeat in the month of October. Baylee Russ is leading the way with 176 kills. Senior Morgan Irvin is averaging 13 digs per match. They will look to celebrate a title on their home court. Archie (19-4-1) comes into the district on a winning streak of their own. Junior Emma McIntire and her 268 kills is a player to watch. 3rd seed Drexel (18-5-1) has two losses to Archie this season and looks toward an opportunity to avenge those defeats. Makenna Willard and Emily Wheeler lead the Bobcat offense. Setter Gracie Marks has over 500 assists on the year. Lutheran (10-9) due to location gets the opportunity to play some high-quality teams in Kansas City. They defeated Drexel last month but lost to Midway and Archie. They’ve played a handful of Class 4 and 5 schools, which may prove to be key as they try to win three straight matches. Aleena Peterson and Morgan Horn are two senior leaders hoping to catapult their team to a title. Kingsville (4-13-1) and Crest Ridge (11-8-2) are your final two teams.
Midway and Archie gets to sit and scout day 1. Lutheran defeats Kingsville and Drexel over Crest Ridge In the 1 vs. 4 matchup we are going with the upset, Lutheran over Midway. They battled in five sets the first week of the season and expect another classic with the Knights not suffering the reverse sweep. In the other semi-final, Drexel over 2nd seed Archie. The first time in our picks we didn’t have a number one or two seed in the final. We will go with 4th seed Lutheran to take home the title.
District 16: (1) Tarkio and Fairfax (2) Rock Port (3) Nodaway-Holt (4) Mound City w/ Craig (5) North Nodaway (6) West Nodaway – October 26th and October 28th @ Rock Port
We expect this bracket to go chalk and the top two seeds facing off in the championship. Tarkio and Fairfax is your top seed and boasts a 14-5 record. They are 3-1 against second seed Rock Port this season. Rock Port sports a 19-6 record this fall. They have had great success against all of the other teams rounding out this district. The top two seeds have a bye.
Nodaway-Holt over West Nodaway. North Nodaway over Mound City. Both winners will run into defeats versus the top two seeds. Rock Port was able to sneak one victory off of Tarko and Fairfax this season but won’t get a second, Tarkio and Fairfax District 16 champion.
