However, we are at this point; Win or Go Home! Let’s take a look at two districts and do our best to predict who will move on in each round and become district champions. The winner of these two districts will face off in sectional play this weekend.
District 13: (1) Summit Christian (2) Butler (3) Sherwood (4) Adrian (5) Lone Jack – October 26th-27th, October 29th @ Adrian
Summit Christian (11-13-1) has played a schedule that gives them a slight advantage entering district play. They played numerous class 3 and 4 teams and took some defeats but are better for it. Junior Olivia Schnick Olivia Schnick OH Summit Christian Academy | 2022 State MO has been a standout defensively with close to 400 digs on the season. The Butler Bears (8-7-2) will be the 2nd seed in District 13. They had three weeks of no action but picked up play again last week. How will the layoff factor into their play will be a thing to watch. Sherwood (11-9-1) has lost to Butler twice this fall. They are dangerous behind the serving line, holding 257 aces on the season. Adrian (8-10) and Lone Jack (6-8-1) complete the bracket. Both are teams more than capable of winning two matches and sneaking into the championship match. Adrian will rely on the play of Braylen Ford.
Adrian earns the right to play Summit Christian. We typically believe in the concept it is hard to beat a good team three times but we believe Butler will beat a good team three times. Summit Christian over Butler for the title.
District 15: (1) West Platte (2) Bishop LeBlond (3) East Buchannan (4) Mid-Buchannan (5) Lathrop (6) North Platte- October 26th-28th @ East Buchannan
The 15-4-1 Blue Jays enter as your top seed. They are 2-2 in their last four but have defeated every team in this district they have faced this season. Senior Lexi Smither looks to add a 2020 district title to her impressive career. Bishop LeBlond (10-7-1) comes in losers of their last three. They have quality opponents on their schedule this season from larger classes. East Buchannan (15-8) is a team to keep an eye on. They enjoyed a seven-match winning steak earlier this month. They were without the services of standout sophomore Maya Watkins Maya Watkins 5'10" | OH East Buchanan | 2023 State MO for a stretch. She is averaging around 14 kills a match since her return. Lillian Schilling stepped up huge in her absence with her 214 kills on the season. Mid-Buchannan (8-13) lost a tough five-set match to close out the season, however a tough match is a good one to enter districts on. Fifth seed Lathrop (7-10-1) was the team to beat Mid-Buch last week. They will depend on that momentum to do it again in their first-round matchup. North Platte rounds out the six-team district with a 4-18 record.
West Platte and Bishop LeBlond get byes into the semi-final round. In the 3 vs 6 quarterfinal, East Buchannan will end North Platte’s season. We made mention the 4 and 4 seeds just played last week with Lathrop taking the victory. This will be the rubber match as the teams have split this season. We will go chalk and ride with Mid-Buchannan getting the win. West Platte will defeat Mid-Buch in the semi-final. We like East Buchannan to defeat Bishop LeBlond in the other semi-final. West Platte and East Buchannan has played this year. In the first battle, the Blue Jays won in 4 and dominated the sets they won. The Bulldogs struggled in serve receive with 9 errors. They faced each other again two days later in tournament play and again West Platte got the upper hand. West Platte gets it done again for a third time and celebrates on East Buchannan’s home court.
