In this series, we’ll dissect each of the state’s six divisions by analyzing the top teams and the most promising players and what we can expect from them when the balls are finally allowed to fly. It’s the fifth week of the series now, so class 3A is our focus.
Mt. Spokane
Any team losing a former Player of the Year should expect a drop of form in the following season, but not Mt. Spokane. The Wildcats won’t have graduated outside hitter Malina Ama, the best player in the division in 2018, next season but reigning Player of the Year Tia Allen Tia Allen 5'11" | OH Mt Spokane | 2021 State WA will be back alongside fellow All-State first-team selections setter Telia Allen and libero Taylor Miche Taylor Miche 5'0" | DS/L Mt. Spokane | 2021 State WA . That means Mt. Spokane, the first repeat champions in the division since 2013, will be the favorites once again and that a three-peat is a strong possibility.
Their three key players are:
Tia Allen Tia Allen 5'11" | OH Mt Spokane | 2021 State WA – Outside Hitter – Senior
The division’s reigning Player of the Year, Tia Allen Tia Allen 5'11" | OH Mt Spokane | 2021 State WA has been an All-State team member in the last two high school volleyball seasons after she received a second-team nomination during Mt. Spokane’s winning campaign in 2018. The 5’10” outside hitter, who ranks fifth on prepdig.com’s class of 2021 rankings, stepped up her game even more last season, when she was key in the Wildcats victory against Capital in the State Championship final with 14 kills in another of her great performances.
Telia Allen – Setter – Junior
Tia’s younger sister Telia has provided significant contributions to Mt. Spokane’s back-to-back State Championships winning campaigns. Like her sister, she also had consecutive appearances at the All-State team, being a second-team selection in 2018 and a first-team member last season, when the 5’10” setter played phenomenal volleyball, especially in the State Championship final, where she registered 22 assists and 17 digs against Capital.
Taylor Miche Taylor Miche 5'0" | DS/L Mt. Spokane | 2021 State WA – Libero/Defensive Specialist – Senior
Mt. Spokane was a very balanced team and part of its strength came from defense, where Taylor Miche Taylor Miche 5'0" | DS/L Mt. Spokane | 2021 State WA ’s game stood out. The five-foot libero had her best high school volleyball season to date in 2019, when she was included in the All-State first team. The pinnacle of her season happened at the most important moment as the talented defender dug as many as 35 balls in the State Championship final against Capital. She occupies the 33rd spot at prepdig.com’s class of 2021 rankings.
