Therefore, I wanted to begin a similar tradition and I am proud to announce Deck The Scout’s Super Squad for the Class of 2021 Kansas Volleyball Players. As a history teacher, I also like acronyms and I thought DTSSS (D,T, Triple S) just sounded cooler than the All-Deck Team. Also, in the tradition of Madden, I am only including players that I saw play in person during the 2020 season.
I managed to see more than 30 high school teams in my first year as a Senior Scout for Prep Dig Kansas. I would have liked to have seen more, but due to my football scouting and college teaching duties, time and date commitments were sometimes limited. Cancellations and schedule changes that were COVID-19 related did not help any either.
With Sub-State play taking place on October 23, I thought I would spend the three days leading up to those tournaments by releasing one Super Squad per day. Tomorrow I release the Class of 2022 squad and will wrap up with the Class 2023 squad the day before Sub-State matches.
S, Camryn Turner Camryn Turner 5'7" | S Seaman | 2021 State KS , 5’7”, (’21 Ranked No. 11) – Turner is verbally committed to compete for Kansas University. Seaman was the only team I saw compete twice during the regular season and Turner dominated each match I watched. She is a big jumper and never needs to be substituted for in the lineup.
OH, Bri Franklin Bri Franklin 5'11" | MB Smoky Valley | 2021 State KS , 5’11” (’21 Ranked No. 134) – Franklin, since I watched her play, as committed to play at Kansas Wesleyan University. She finished with a total of 17 kills and nine blocks on the day I watched her play. She has a big reach and plays taller than 5’11”. Franklin finished the regular season with 157 kills and 55 blocks.
OH, Mallorie Koehn Mallorie Koehn 5'11" | OH Maize | 2021 State KS , 5’11”, (’21 Ranked No. 31)– Koehn is the real deal and has multiple offers from several MIAA schools. In the three matches I scouted, she ended up with 30 kills, 27 digs, and six service aces. Koehn finished the regular season with 251 digs and 206 kills.
MH, Ali Frank Ali Frank 6'0" | MB Spring Hill | 2021 State KS , 6’0”, Spring Hill (’21 Ranked No. 22) – Frank, verbally committed to play at Baker University, is a solid net-front performer. She finished with 15 kills and four blocks in the season-opening match against Mill Valley. At the end of the regular season, Frank had 222 kills and 41 blocks.
OH, Karena Gerber, 6’0”, Halstead – Gerber has chosen to continue her athletic career as a basketball player for Division II Pittsburg State University. She amassed 11 kills, 10 digs, and nine blocks against Goessel when I scouted her. Gerber is a big jumper and just pounds the ball. There is no doubt that she could play Volleyball at the DII level as well.
OH, Madalyn Ehlers, 6’0”, Olathe West – Ehlers has a college offer from Division II Northwest Missouri State University. Ehlers has a big swing, and if she is on her angle, is tough to dig against. She had a team-high 12 kills against Free State in a late October match.
