Therefore, I wanted to begin a similar tradition and I am proud to announce Deck The Scout’s Super Squad for the Class of 2022 Kansas Volleyball Players. As a history teacher, I also like acronyms and I thought DTSSS (D,T, Triple S) just sounded cooler than the All-Deck Team. Also, in the tradition of Madden, I am only including players that I saw play in person during the 2020 season.
I managed to see more than 30 high school teams in my first year as a Senior Scout for Prep Dig Kansas. I would have liked to have seen more, but due to my football scouting and college teaching duties, time and date commitments were sometimes limited. Cancellations and schedule changes that were COVID-19 related did not help any either.
With Sub-State play taking place on October 23, I thought I would spend the three days leading up to those tournaments by releasing one Super Squad per day. Yesterday I released the Class of 2021 squad and will wrap up with the Class 2023 squad tomorrow.
Deck’s Super Squad: Class of 2022
MH, Lauren Schutter Lauren Schutter 6'2" | MB Wabaunsee | 2022 State KS 6’1”, Wabaunsee (’22 Ranked No. 2) – Big 12 coaches and other DI volleyball scouts better start getting in line to recruit Schutter. She is tall, can jump, hits hard, and know-how and when to utilize a tip. She finished with a total of 25 kills and seven blocks in a match against Rock Creek that I scouted. Schutter finished the season with 291 kills and 110 blocks.
MH, Abby Rose Abby Rose 6'0" | MB Smoky Valley | 2022 State KS , 6’0”, Smoky Valley (’22 Ranked No. 24) – Rose entered the Prep Dig Kansas player rankings for the Class of 2022 ranked number 24. I watched Smoky Valley play early in the season and she finished the day with 21 kills and 13 digs. She plays all over the court and is extremely athletic. She looks to be a solid DII recruit. Rose finished the regular season with 215 kills and 62 blocks.
MH, Kathryn Frakes Kathryn Frakes 6'2" | MB Spring Hill | 2022 State KS , 6’2”, Spring Hill (’22 Ranked No. 8) – Frakes played like a potential DI recruit and Top 10 player for the Broncos in their season opener against Mill Valley. The explosive junior had seven kills and 5 blocks in the win over the Jaguars. She finished the season with 153 kills and 50 blocks.
OH, Lily Boughfman Lily Boughfman 6'0" | OH Little River | 2022 KS , 6’0”, Little River (’22 Ranked No. 4) – Boughfman is a solid Division II recruit and would be deserving of a look by Division I coaches. She is a big jumper and has a long reach. She hits the ball with authority but also can play the back row. She does not need to be rotated out of the match. Boughfman finished the regular season with 245 kills and 249 digs.
OH, Olivia Lubbers, 5’8” Rock Creek– Lubbers had a solid regular season for Rock Creek. She amassed 175 kills and 185 digs. Lubbers finished with a team-high 18 kills in the two wins over Wabaunsee. Lubbers also added 11 digs. She plays smart, can jump, and has a big reach. She is a fringe Division II prospect, and a must look at for NAIA and JUCO recruiters.
