First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
We start with District 1A Caribou Trail, which has five high schools set to compete, and their best three players are:
Katie Rainville – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Chelan
Division 1A champions Chelan went unharmed in the district last season winning all of their eight matches without dropping a single set. Middle-blocker Katie Rainville was a key element in their successful season, proving reliable offensive power and a solid blocking presence at the net at all times. The 5’9” prospect capped off a fantastic season with a strong State Championship display which saw her register 21 blocks and 45 kills, including the one that sealed the Lady Goats’ win in the final and sent her directly into the All-State first team.
Elly Collins – Outside Hitter – Senior – Chelan
Rainville might have scored the final point, but it’s hard to argue the fact that Elly Collins might have been Chelan’s most important player in last year’s final. The 5’8” outside hitter was on top of her game against King’s, registering 19 kills for the Lady Goats in the match, nearly half of the 45 she tallied during the entire State Championship. Collins is very strong on the defensive side of the game too, having added 58 digs during the tournament, which explains her commitment to play beach volleyball for the Grand Canyon University and her nomination to the All-State first team.
Morgyn Harrison – Libero – Junior – Chelan
Chelan’s backcourt was definitely in good hand season, but not only due to Collins’ presence. Team libero Morgyn Harrison was lights out as the Lady Goats’ court general, tallying 88 digs during the State Championship, 27 of which was the most important moment of the season, the final match against King’s. Unsurprisingly, the 5’5” defender earned an All-State first-team nomination.
