First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
Our second stop is at 1A Emerald Sound, which has 13 high schools set to compete, and their best three players are:
Noelle Alberda – Middle-Blocker – Senior – King’s
Noelle Alberda was a key member of the well-oiled King’s team that advanced all the way to the State Championship final last year. The six-foot middle-blocker was a force for the Knights at the net, providing them a steady blocking presence and a reliable scoring option. Her good technique, speed and fearless mentality are some of the attributes that led Alberda to be an All-State second-team selection last season.
Diya Mishra –Middle-Blocker/Outside Hitter – Junior – Overlake
Diya Mishra was a centerpiece in Overlake’s State Championship run last year. The versatile player was mostly used as a middle-blocker, a position in which she earned All-State team honorable mention honors, and provided a great impact in the Owls’ game being the team’s top blocker (26 stuffs), second-best hitter (132 kills) and server (63 aces) and ranking third in digs (39) and passes (101). The 5’11” player is particularly impressive on offense due to her perfect timing and ability to hit different sets from the middle.
Emily Evanson – Libero – Senior – King’s
Emily Evanson had no trouble leading King’s backcourt efforts in 2019. The 5’5” defender used her superb confidence and her impressive ball control to dominate the Knights’ serve receiving efforts while her fantastic reading and eye-popping reaction speed got the job done when it came to defense especially with her trademark single-hand digs. Her hard work was reward with her inclusion in the All-State second team.
