Here is a scouting report from the 5A State Tournament play as two Maverick Seniors will look to continue their playing careers after graduation.
S, Laurel Jones Laurel Jones 6'1" | S Maize South | 2021 State KS , 6’1”, (Ranked No. 4) –The Maize South senior has verbally committed to play at Marquette University. Jones a tall player with quick hands and an eye for holes in opponent’s defensive set-ups. Jones entered the state tournament with 493 assists, 231 kills, and 48 aces. She did not have her best game of the season during the state tournament, but she showed she can play with the elite teams.
L, Riley Kennedy Riley Kennedy 5'4" | DS/L Maize South | 2021 State KS , 5’4”, (Ranked No. 48) – Kennedy led Maize South in digs in 2020 with 240. Kennedy is committed to play volleyball as well as softball at Neosho County Community College. She will be a solid addition on the court and ball field for the Panthers.
MH, Avery Lowe, 6’1”,– Lowe is just a sophomore, but she will be a highly recruited member of the Class of 2023. Lowe is tall and can jump. Lowe entered the state tournament with 72 blocks and 140 kills. She had three kills in the semifinal loss to St. Thomas Aquinas.
Bishop Carroll’s senior class of five played their final high school game, but one for sure will continue to play post-high school volleyball, while the other four hope for college offers.
S, Ella Larkin Ella Larkin 5'10" | S Bishop Carroll | 2021 State KS , 5’10”, (’21 Ranked No. 16) – Larkin is a solid talent and has verbally committed to play beach volleyball at Louisiana State University. LSU will be getting a player who plays with high energy. Larkin entered the state tournament with 287 assists, 156 kills, and 153 digs. She is the kind of player who will thrive collegiately in the sand as she can do it all.
OH, Riley Daugherty, 5’10”, – Daugherty is a solid player and can play both front and back rows. She led the Golden Eagles with 197 kills while adding 155 digs during the regular season. She is a gritty senior who looks like she could play at the NAIA or JUCO levels.
OH, Victoria Brake Victoria Brake 6'0" | OH Bishop Carroll | 2021 State KS , 6’0”, (’21 Ranked No. 34) – Brake is a senior looking for her first college offer. She had 87 kills for the Golden Eagles in 2020. She has a nice reach and is an experienced player who knows how to win.
