Continue ReadingWe bring our attention back to the Rising Sophomore class of 2023. We will continue to help get exposure to those that deserve it through their efforts to improve on the court. We have been very active in communicating with College Recruiting Directors all over the state so that we can bring the best to the eyes of the college coaches we have in our database that read our articles. I have spoken to many of them and they are extremely excited about this 2023 class. It is never too early to get exposure. So without further ado, here are a few of the standouts from the 2023 class that I have not written about yet.
Dylan Gilkey Dylan Gilkey 5'8" | S Cedar Park | 2023 State TX [2023] 5-7 Setter (HS: Cedar Park/Club: Roots/ Verbal: Uncommitted)
Dylan is the 59th ranked prospect in the 2023 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. Miss Gilkey is a setter from the central Texas area who plays for a great club program, Roots. This young lady is going to move up the rankings fast if she continues on the path she is on now. She is a small in size but she plays very big in the way she moves on the court and how she jump sets all locations along the net. The offense flows very well from this rising sophomore due to her extremely consistent setting. The ball comes off of her hands very smoothly and she is pretty deceptive with her posture as she moves the ball to both sides of the court to her hitters. She is not scared to stay in the front row and block opposing attackers. It is this attitude that will carry her in her volleyball career as a setter. Most setters struggle in their early years to backset hitters on the right side. Miss Gilkey jump sets her right side hitters at all tempos and the consistency is astounding. Her right side hitters hit at a very high clip with her at the helm. Keep an eye on this young lady as she is one to watch.
Mia Howell Mia Howell 5'9" | MB Rockwall Heath | 2023 TX [2023] 5-9 Middle (HS: Rockwall Heath/Club: Dallas Premier/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Miss Howell is currently ranked as the 61st top prospect in the 2023 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. This middle from the Dallas area loves to run shoot sets in the 31 position. She is a little smaller than her counterparts in the middle position, however she still battles well. She has good footwork and could develop into a great player with the correct training. She has a high reach and hits the ball with a good amount of power behind it. She runs a good route in the middle and is always ready to swing. Mia is not afraid to joust with bigger middles and shows good timing for her size. Her Dallas Premier club will definitely develop her further in her volleyball career.
Taylor Polivka Taylor Polivka 5'11" | S Keller | 2023 State TX [2023] 5-11 Setter (HS: Keller/Club: Excel/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Miss Polivka comes in as the 62nd ranked prospect in the 2023 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. After following Taylor over the last couple of months and truly analyzing her skills, she will be moving up the rankings in our next update for sure. She is a very skilled setter who has amazing accuracy on all locations and tempos. She has worked with some awesome coaches over her young career and it shows in her play. She is a very technical setter who showcases phenomenal attention to detail in her technique with contact and release. Her coaches should be proud of how hard she works and how much their training has transferred into game-like settings. The way she is able to get around on a ball that is out of position is usually only seen in older setters. I have a strong feeling that this young lady is destined for greatness in the setting position. However, don’t sleep on her attacking skills as she is a solid hitter in the front row as well. Everything about her is fluid and I cannot wait to see what she does in her high school career moving forward. Stay tune to see how far she moves up the rankings in November.
