They are graduating seven very talented seniors, all of which are great athletes and several of which are committed to playing in college. I watched their match Tuesday night (virtually) against Menomonee Falls where they proved just how dominant they are as a class and as a program. Sussex Hamilton celebrated senior night last night and all seven seniors started (one as libero). They dominated a very talented Menomonee Falls and made some seriously elite volleyball look easy. I wanted to take a moment to celebrate this senior class!
Janelle Stuempfig Janelle Stuempfig 5'11" | S Sussex Hamilton | 2021 State WI – Prep Dig Rank #24 – Committed to Winona State
Janelle is such a talented setter and an all-around athlete. She excels in all areas of volleyball from defense to serving. And she moves the ball so fast. Her setting is so smart and quick you can barely see the ball hit her hands. In her four years at Sussex Hamilton, she has clocked in 1,648 assists, 122 aces, 551 digs, and 134 kills. And we still have half of a season to go! Her consistency on the court is a huge aspect of this program’s success.
Clara Hoeksema Clara Hoeksema OH Hamilton | 2021 State WI – Prep Dig Rank #93 – Uncommitted
Clara is a back-row player who is very controlled. She holds her platform well and is a huge asset to serve receive. In her four years on varsity, she has had 463 digs and 757 service receptions. Her control on the court was huge for Sussex Hamilton in their win Tuesday night over Menomonee Falls.
Kayla Lewinski Kayla Lewinski 5'10" | RS Sussex Hamilton | 2021 State WI – Prep Dig Rank #36 – Committed to University of Mary
No one can deny that Kayla can pound the ball. She has an insane amount of power and can is an energizer on the court. She is the type of athlete that clearly just loves to play volleyball and be competitive. Her intensity on the court and the energy she brings to every play, whether she gets the ball or not, is inspiring. Kayla will have a huge impact at the University of Mary!
Megan Hawthorne Megan Hawthorne OH Sussex Hamilton | 2021 State WI – Prep Dig Rank #112
Megan is a dynamic athlete. She can play pretty much anywhere on the court. While she excels on defense and serve receive, she also has a nice swing and can place the ball well as a pin hitter. She is a great tool for an already very dynamic Sussex Hamilton squad!
Katelyn Lefler Katelyn Lefler 5'11" | S Sussex Hamilton | 2021 State WI – Prep Dig Rank #18 – Committed to Illinois State
Katelyn is a consistent and powerful athlete. As a setter, she moves the ball around with ease and can set pin to pin from anywhere on the court. She also is strong on defense and, when given the opportunity, can pound the ball! Fun fact: I had the opportunity to coach Katelyn when she was just 11 years old, it has been awesome watching her develop into an incredible athlete!
Lakyn Graves Lakyn Graves 6'1" | MB Sussex Hamilton | 2021 State WI – Prep Dig Rank #31 – Uncommitted
Lakyn swings high and fast. That combined with her sheer athleticism and speed makes her a very smart and efficient middle hitter. She has a 0.323 hitting percentage throughout her high school career which is truly an impressive number. Last year she hit a 0.414 and is on track to do it again this year.
Ella Chevalier – Uncommitted
Ella is a very smart middle hitter. She sees the court well and puts the ball in hard to reach places. She clocked in 8 kills and 3 blocks in the game against Menomonee Falls on Tuesday and really proved her worth.
These seniors are truly a special group of athletes who, when together, are unstoppable. This group of athletes will be missed next year but still have what looks to be a very successful season ahead of them!
