With COVID protocols in place, KSHSAA decreased the field at state tournaments from eight teams to four. It had a much different feel than past State Volleyball Tournaments in Kansas, but it was still a big stage with tightly contested matches.
Having covered the 6A State Tournament I have put together an All-State team. Players from the four quarterfinal teams that did not earn a trip to Salina are eligible for honorable mention positions.
OH, Taylor Stockman, 5’11”, Blue Valley West –Stockman, a junior, had 11 kills in the championship victory. Stockman went “Beast Mode” in the semifinal victory over Garden City with double-digit kills. She had 228 kills entering the Class 6A State Tournament. She will be a high-profile recruit from the Class of 2022.
OH, Skyler Pierce, 6’1”, Olathe Northwest –Pierce had eight kills in the title game against Blue Valley West. She led the Ravens in 2020 with 289 kills. She also had 38 aces. She played well in the state tournament and it is clear she can compete at the collegiate level. Pierce is a freshman with a very high ceiling.
S, Alyssa Miller Alyssa Miller 5'10" | S Blue Valley Northwest | 2021 State KS , 5’10”, Blue Valley West (’21 Ranked No. 8) – Miller is a fantastic setter with an accurate quick release. In the State Title game, she amassed 13 assists, three kills, and four blocks. Miller has committed to play Division I Volleyball at Dayton University. She led Class 6A with 699 assists before the State Tournament.
LS, Brooklyn DeLeye, 6’1”, Washburn Rural – DeLeye, is just a sophomore, who controlled Rural’s early round-robin victories. The left side hitter is a talented two-way player. She shows the ball no mercy when she strikes it. She is tall and has a huge swing.
MB, Abby Ellerman Abby Ellerman 5'11" | MB Garden City | 2021 State KS , 5’9”, Garden City (’21 Ranked No. 54) – The Buffaloes senior has an athletic frame and is a solid Junior College prospect. She was a nice net-front presence for Garden City in the five matches played during the tournament. She finished the regular season with 163 kills and 42 blocks.
L, Morgan Colangelo, 5’5”, Blue Valley West – Gritty, spunky, there are just not enough ways to describe the Jaguar junior libero. She came up big in the 6A title contest with 15 digs and seven serve receptions. She has a hard serve and would be a great fit for a JUCO program.
