First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
The Northwest District reunites seven high schools from the 1B and 2B classes and some of their players with the greatest upside are:
Katie Watkins – Middle-Blocker – Senior – LaConner
Katie Watkins enters her final year of high school volleyball having helped LaConner win the State Championship title in each of the last two seasons. The 5’9” middle-blocker had strong numbers in 2019, when she had the Braves’ fifth-best mark in kills with 51 and was the third-best blocker with 29 stuffs. She received an honorable mention for the All-League team for her performance.
Avery Yates – Outside Hitter – Senior – Mount Vernon Christian
Avery Yates’ all-around volleyball skills are a great match with Mount Vernon Christian’s team-first playing style. The 5’6” outside hitter contributes to the team’s approach with a diverse game that is capable of helping the Hurricanes both at the net with her scoring ability and at the backcourt with her solid defensive skills.
Emma Keller – Setter / Right Sider – Junior – LaConner
After a pair of seasons in which she had a secondary role in LaConner’s system but helped the team winning back-to-back State Championships, Emma Keller is expected to be able to do more next year. The 5’7” prospect, which splits her time between setter and right sider duties, has shown she’s capable of contributing in several aspects last year, when she registered 20 aces, 177 digs and 137 passes for the Braves and was included in the All-League second team.
