In a very physical first set, the #3 seed Antlers fought off three game points to outlast the Dukes 28-26. The Antlers would then go on to sweep the Dukes 25-16 and 25-10 the next two sets.The wind was taken out of the sails after that first set and the Dukes struggled to stay in system and tame Abigail Wolfe’s line shots and Sydney Razler’s fast middle quick hits.
6’0″ junior outside Masa Scheierman Masa Scheierman 6'0" | OH York | 2022 State NE led the Dukes and all hitters with 13 kills for the match. Masa was so aggressive and played a great all-around game. She also had 11 digs, one solo block and chipped in two ace serves. She has become a strong six rotation player for the Dukes and was a vocal leader on the floor today. Brynn Hirshfield finished with 11 set assists and Destiny Shepherd had 13 assists.
The Antlers were led by Abigail Wolfe with 11 kills. She was so explosive late in the first set and hit line really well over the Duke block. She also had great court vision finding some holes on the floor. She also had one solo block, three ace serves and five digs. Addison Thomas had 10 kills and 12 digs for the Antlers. Sydney Raszler Sydney Raszler 6'0" | MB Elkhorn | 2022 State NE was also very physical and brings a ton of energy to the floor. She runs a great middle quick that many defenses cannot pick up. Setter Abigail Nadgwick distributed the ball well among her hitters with 38 set assists. The Antlers physicality and balanced attack was too much to overcome for the Dukes.
The #6 seed Dukes close out the season at 27-10 and the 23-9 # 3 seed Antlers will face fellow EMC foe #2 seed Norris on Friday night’s 9pm Semi-Final match.
