With club and high school season shortened and restricted the recruiting process looked quite different. The Mizuno M1 club had a great week with a handful of their athletes signing with major college volleyball programs.
Sonia Dahlin Sonia Dahlin 5'11" | MB Minnetonka | 2021 State MN – Ohio Northern University, OH
The Minnetonka senior, who has played with M1 for a few years is a 5’10” power hitter who can swing from the outside or middle. She is a major contributor in their offense adding a handful of kills every match. This season she is hitting close to 0.200. Dahlin’s athletic ability shows in her blocking too as she has a strong ability to reach over and close the block. She take advantage of overpasses and stays ready to pounce in the front row. Sonia will pursue a business degree as a Polar Bear.
Joining her is Emma Strozewski. The Lakeville North outside hitter is a strategic hitter and excellent defender. The pair will bring Minnesota skill and style to Ohio.
Riley Walsh Riley Walsh 6'0" | OH Breck | 2021 State MN – Washington University, MO
Not much as changed in the last few years since we started covering the Up and Coming: Riley Walsh Riley Walsh 6'0" | OH Breck | 2021 State MN back in 2019. The 6’0 senior has committed to the southern school. She made the jump from Northern Lights to M1 once in high school. Most recently was on the 17-2’s and has established herself as a top recruit at Breck High School.
Mallorey Madson Mallorey Madson 5'5" | DS/L Eden Prairie | 2021 State MN – Purdue University Northwest, IN
The Eden Prairie defender has long been praised by their coach Chad Becker. They run a fast offense based off of their disciplined passing with Madson at the center. She is used to going against some of the biggest hitters in the state facing off with Wazyata and others in the Lake Conference so we know she is ready to take on the competition at Purdue Northwest.
Carissa Richie Carissa Richie 6'0" | MB Mound Westonka | 2021 State MN – Southern Utah University, UT
Mound Westonka are having a difficult time in the Wright Country conference but 6’0, senior Carissa always plays her hardest and will get to continue on in Utah. When hitting she looks relaxed and is patient until she unloads with an unbelievably fast snap. She will be a great addition wherever they decide to play her with strong fundamentals and versatility not all middles have.
Payton Auseth – Gustavus Adolphus College, MN
The 5’8” setter out of Chaska has opted to stay close to home. They have had an awesome season currently 8-1 overall and undefeated 8-0 in the Metro East. We can see her adding to growing college program as a setter or even as a defensive specialist.
