One position to pay close attention to is the talented group of setters at this year’s 250 Expo. Here is a look at some of the girls to keep an eye on throughout the club, summer and high school seasons to see their stock continue to rise. There is a good selection of small and big school talent along with some more versatile players, who also play some libero and defensive specialists as well.
Class of 2021:
Reese Jansen 5’8” Setter: Central Conference member Columbus Lakeview finished the season 30-6 with a 3rd place finish at the Nebraska State Volleyball Tournament earlier this month. Jansen was a huge part of the Viqueen’s success. She eclipsed 999 set assists this year and averaged 10.4 set assists a set. She chipped in 47 ace serves, 289 digs, 38 total blocks and had 86 kills. Watching her this season, she did such a great job of distributing the ball across the net for the Viqueens. An honorable mention all-stater she is also very smart with the ball and can do many things well. She would be a great addition to any program!
Class of 2022:
Oliva Poppert 6’0” Setter:The Wildcats were 30-1 this season and their only loss was in the 5 set final thriller to State Champion Wahoo. Poppert was an All-State second team pick for Class C-1 this season. Poppert does a fantastic job of being aggressive and strong at the net. She is a tall and athletic girl and can really mask a dump to keep defenders on their toes. Speaking of defense, she plays great floor defense and is disciplined to play defense first, and not release too early. She is really fun to watch and so incredibly strong at the net!
Class of 2023:
Kiley Hejmantek 5’5” Setter: The Wolves had an outstanding season with a 29-2 record and a 4th place finish at the D-2 State Volleyball Tournament. Part of that success was due to sophomore Kiley Hejmantek. She dished out 356 set assists in the 6-2 offense. She recorded 236 digs, 13 total blocks, 22 kills and 36 ace serves. It will be fun to watch the small school athlete compete and grow at the Expo this year. I am excited to watch what she can do!
Class of 2024:
Haylee Wolf Haylee Wolf 5'7" | DS/L Elkhorn North | 2024 State NE 5’6” Setter, Libero: The Elkhorn North Timberwolves will be the team to watch out for in the next couple of years! They showed tremendous growth under Jenny Gragert in their first season as a school. One versatile player who plays for Premier’s 15 team is freshman Haylee Wolf Haylee Wolf 5'7" | DS/L Elkhorn North | 2024 State NE . She averaged 4.8 digs a set and ended the season with 386 digs and 5 ace serves. She had 59 set assists as well. Her primary position listed on the Expo list was setter, but her secondary position was defensive specialist and libero. It will be fun to watch her versatility on Sunday.
Looking forward to a great Expo at The Volleyball Academy in LaVista on Sunday! It will be a fantastic event with mega talent!
