Talented young players are stepping up for volleyball programs across the 5th Region.
Here are three 5th Region eighth graders to watch.
Haley Merideth: A Warren Central eighth grade setter, Merideth appeared in a dozen matches during the 2020 high school volleyball season. Contributing for Warren Central, Merideth tallied 19 assists, 21 digs and 7 service aces in 21 sets. Merideth is developing into a vocal leader. The Warren Central eighth grader identifies blockers well and has shown the ability to run offenses. Merideth is expected to take on a larger role for Warren Central during her sophomore season.
Aubrey Sears: A Logan County eighth grade outside hitter, Sears excelled throughout the 2020 high school volleyball season. In 18 matches for Logan County, Sears recorded 119 kills, 10 blocks and 17 digs. Aggressive at the net and already a go-to hitter, Sears delivers consistently from both the front row and the back row. Sears was among Logan County’s leaders as an eighth grader.
Leyla Spurlock: An Allen County-Scottsville eighth grade defensive specialist, Spurlock appeared in 15 matches during the 2020 high school volleyball season. Spurlock posted 119 digs for perennial title contender Allen County-Scottsville. A young defensive standout who digs and pursues well, Spurlock delivers as a back row hitter regularly.
