We are extremely proud to cover all divisions across the state. Now we take our attention to the 2A division. There are 201 schools in the 2A division across the state. What is truly amazing is the fact that these schools have to have a total enrollment between 105-229 to qualify as a 2A school. Most of these kids play multiple sports and are so fun to watch. Now lets get to the match that occurred over the weekend.
Iola vs Crawford for the State Championship. Iola came in to the championship match with an astounding 30-1 overall record. Their only loss on the season came from a five set heartbreaking loss to Leon High. They destroyed district for Thrall in the Semi-finals to reach the championship match. Crawford has also had a great season with an overall record of 33-3. Crawford had absolutely no problem with Albany to reach the finals. Both teams have had fantastic seasons and were itching to hoist up the trophy.
Crawford put up a valiant fight against a formidable opponent. All night long the trio of Katie Warren, Kylie Ray, and Taylor Westerfield scored on the Iola defense and kept Crawford in the match. Katie finished with 18 kills on 52 total attempts. Kylie and Taylor had 10 and 11 kills, respectively. Lexi Moody was able to move the ball around to the trio and ended with 36 total assists. It was good enough offense to stay in the match but they didn’t have enough defense to stop the barrage of offense from powerhouse Iola.
Iola’s Jenna McDougald and Cadence Hoyle were absolutely unstoppable. It was a heavy dose of those two all night. Jenna McDougald ended the night with 19 kills on 68 total attempts while Cadence Hoyle had a match high 26 kills on 75 swings. Feeding these two great hitters was setter Ava Pointer who finished with 45 assists on the night. Iola was able to win the championship in four sets 25-21, 25-20, 19-25, 25-17 bringing their school its third state title in school history.
