It is time for our quarterly rankings update for the class of 2022! We revamped our rankings back in August and for the most part, we had complete seasons around the state except for the St. Louis area. We saw a lot of great play this fall and are pleased to increase our rankings from 30 to 80. As we prepare to release our rankings, we feel it is important to share the process and what goes into this difficult task.
The top half of players are ranked on their status as a college prospect. Not necessarily what they have accomplished in high school or club. We determine this from our panel of coaches across the region. This means we go through and rank our top division 1 prospects, then we proceed and rank our remaining athletes. Keep in mind, who may be considered the best player currently does not equate to top college prospects. Due to the pandemic, we had access to much more live game action this year than years past. We also see Hudl game footage and highlights, recruitment notes, and MaxPreps to get as much information as possible on each prospect. We can’t stress enough, these are opinions, and not being on these lists does not mean you will not have a successful collegiate career.
Since we shared that we utilize a panel of coaches, here is the breakdown for those curious.
12 College Coaches
9 High School/Club Regional Coaches
Prep Dig Staff
For each class, the top 10-20 rankings depending on which class, we utilized primarily the rankings shared by the college coaches.
We want to again thank our panel for taking the time over the last few weeks to pull this together. And without further ado, Class of 2022! Class of 2022 Rankings
Top 10 Movement
There was a little movement among the top 10. We had a very tight race for the top spot between #1 Vanessa Polk Vanessa Polk 6'2" | MB John Burroughs | 2022 State #59 Nation MO (Pepperdine) and #2 Isabel Zimmerman Isabel Zimmerman 6'2" | RS Liberty North | 2022 State #30 Nation MO (Auburn), who jumped from the third spot. Interesting enough these two squares off in a scrimmage yesterday in Columbia! There was a lot of good dialogue between the middle and right side hitter mainly due to Zimmerman playing more 6 rotation this year during the high school season but appears to be front row early right now for KC Power based on recent video. The majority determined Polk will be a high-impact player sooner at Pepperdine, though Zimmerman will also be a huge contributor. Nixa’s Jaycee Fixsen Jaycee Fixsen 5'11" | OH Nixa | 2022 State MO (Missouri State) jumped into the top 5 to #3, from previously being ranked 6th after a huge junior season. Ally Williams Ally Williams 5'4" | DS/L Oakville | 2022 State MO and Madison Corf Madison Corf 5'11" | OH Liberty | 2022 State MO round out the new additions into the top 10. Williams, the recent Maryland commit is now sitting as the 9th ranked player in the state. Liberty’s Corf had another terrific season to place her as the tenth-ranked recruit in Missouri.
Biggest Jumps in the Top 30
Reese Schaaf Reese Schaaf 5'10" | RS El Dorado Springs | 2022 State MO of El Dorado Springs took the biggest jump in these updated rankings going 6 spots from 29 to 23 after a stellar junior season. Caroline Beckmann Caroline Beckmann 5'11" | MB Eldon | 2022 State MO moved 5 places to get into the top 15 at the 15th slot. After earning all-state recognition and a final four berth, Platte County’s Kate Brown Kate Brown 5'11" | MB Platte County | 2022 State MO went from 23 to 20.
Entering the Rankings and the Top 30
We did increase our rankings from 30 to 80. With this change, we did have 50 athletes entering the rankings for the first time. These athletes however not only entered the rankings but were able to break into the top 30 after stellar seasons.
Syndee Dudolski– OH – Carthage – 19th
Dudolski had a breakout season for Carthage in her junior ear. She earned All-State honors this fall after a season that saw her get 303 kills and 258 digs. At 5’10”, she has emerged as one of the top pin recruits in the Ozark region.
Jessa Hylton Jessa Hylton 5'7" | OH Carl Junction | 2022 State MO – OH – Carl Junction – 25th
Hylton could be undersized to play the pin at the next level but she is continuing to show why coaches shouldn’t write her off just yet. She is chasing down the recently updated record books at Carl Junction after putting down 312 kills during her junior season.
Mia Trankler Mia Trankler 6'0" | MB Jackson | 2022 State MO – MB – Jackson – 28th
Trankler made quite the impression in her junior campaign where a few coaches added her to their rankings. The 6’0″ middle had 261 kills and 106 blocks while hitting at a .460 clip. She will benefit from a club season which will more her on the radar of more coaches in 2021.
